Goal: Protect animals from gruesome death for human consumption.
In 2019, Canada saw more than eight hundred million animals slaughtered for human consumption. In addition to that, hundreds of millions of cows, pigs, sheep, bison, poultry and horses are exported every year to countries all over the world to be brutally killed. Although a large part of the population is against a meat-based diet, the ghastly butchering of animals is an accepted practice for human gain.
Hunger is no ethical excuse to take another living being’s life. And while animal protein assisted our evolution to become modern, verbal, and intelligent people, living in the 21st century makes meat an obsolete part of our existence. Bill Gates supports the claim that killing animals for meat is not the way of the future by saying that “all rich countries should move to 100% synthetic beef.”
Millions of baby animals are brutally torn away from their mothers to endure horrendous abuse until they meet their deadly fate. Livestock on factory farms are kept in tiny spaces, forced to wallow in their own feces and to eat a genetically modified diet, never seeing the light of day. Their torture continues when the scared and panic-stricken animals are hurriedly loaded on trucks. The ride to the slaughterhouse already injures and kills thousands because of extreme weather conditions, trampling, and exhaustion. Upon their arrival, the weak and tired animals are chased inside the abattoir with electric prods or dragged with chains. The often-untrained workers mutilate the still conscious sentient beings before they succumb to the metal bolt.
Raising livestock on pasture with a nice, clean environment does not change the fact that they are destined to be maliciously killed in people’s interest. No matter how an animal is brought up in the meat industry, it only dies because of us.
Unless an ethical alternative with the same nutritional benefits for carnivorous pets can be found, the meat production them should continue.
Humans’ obsession with meat is repulsive and appalling, and should not be part of our modern world. Sign this petition to ban the slaughter of animals for meat.

Canada is one of the largest meat producers in the world, which places the country in a shameful position in the 21st century. With the rapidly rising demand for plant-based products, the meat production should come to a standstill.
Countless animals are forced to endure the most unspeakable cruelty only to die for a human’s meal. People’s morbid obsession with meat is outdated and unnecessary, and ethical alternatives are readily available. No matter how they are raised, slaughtering animals cannot be excused.
This is an opportunity for Canada to be known as a country of ethics and compassion, and you can help lead the plant-based movement onto the global stage.
Take the first step and stop killing animals for meat for human consumption.

Why Are Cattle Important?
1. Cattle provide us with beef
2. Cattle provide us with important byproducts
3. Cattle benefit the environment and help prevent range fires
Cattle eat the grass that is grown by the sun to power themselves. They use the energy to make muscle which is what makes up beef!
Just how do cattle turn grass and other forage into meat?
Well they are special animals that are called ruminants. This means that their stomach is specially designed with 4 different parts. The different compartments help digest the lignin & cellulose that make up the plants they eat. Cattle are able to convert the energy in a way that we as humans could not do.
Cattle also provide us with many other by-products – parts of the cow that are used to make products for home, health, food and industry.
Byproducts are value-added products other than beef that come from cattle. They are of considerably less value than the primary product, which is beef. Cosmetics, Sandpaper, Film, Buttons, Leather, Violin Strings; Medicines for: Insulin and Cholesterol. And MANY, MANY MORE products!
One way cattle help the environment is by reducing the risk of range fires. When grass get unreasonably tall and dry, it is really easy for a stray match, lightning or even sparks from cars and ATVs to start a range fire. These fires can burn thousands of acres, ruin habitat for deer, birds and other animals, and sometimes threaten the homes of families.
When cattle graze the lands they reduce the length of the grass, just like humans do when they mow their lawn.
Cattle keep the rangeland ecosystem healthy by grazing down old growth. Nationally the bee population is threatened by plant and insect diseases. The rangelands have been a safe haven for Bees and have continued to do very well there.

And how about all the byproducts of human food production clothing production and fuel production that would have to be destroyed if they were not being used by cattle to produce edible protein for humans. Things like ethanol cottonseed cottonseed hulls almond Hulls cull Citrus cull Tomatoes cull vegetables cull fruit the list goes on and on.

I raise cattle, they are well cared for by me and my family, meat, milk, hides, yes, everything is consumed, no waste. When we slaughter our steers, it is monitored by Dept. of Agriculture and done humanely, animals die instantly. I don’t know what horrors lie inside factory farms or huge slaughter facilities as i produce on small scale.

It’s so sad that animals can’t talk and tell us they feel pain and want to live and don’t want to be slaughtered. I guess humans play god and decide which creatures can exist and who should die.
I am ALL for the humane treatment of EVERY being, I don’t even like to see an insect suffer, and MUCH needs to be done WORLDWIDE to end needless suffering of animals, even if it means way less meat made available, BUT what many who want all human consumption of animals ended fail to realize is that even IF all people stopped eating animals, the animals will STILL eat EACH OTHER, it is their only means of survival! It SUCKS, I HATE it, and I refuse to watch any wildlife shows where some poor Zebra is taken down, and violently killed by lions, or a hawk swoops down, and grabs a precious bunny, HEARTBREAKING, but it’s nature, it’s how animals can continue to exist, and as much as good hearted people, INCLUDING myself would LOVE to end ALL suffering, you will NEVER turn all wildlife into vegans!! Eating animals is never going to go away. It is what humans have done since the beginning. What should be changed is HOW slaughter is done. It can and should be done humanely. No animal should suffer because humans need to eat meat. This is the change I would like to see. I am old and i was brought up on meat and I will die the same. Don’t like a lot of the odd foods vegans and vegetarians eat… not a big salad person. Slaughtering animals needs to be humane. I will fight for humanity in slaughter….but not the banishment of it.
