Officer Accused of Leaving Police Dog in Hot Car to Die Must be Fired and Prosecuted

Target: W.H. “Skip” Holbrook, Chief of Columbia Police Department in South Carolina

Goal: Fire and arrest the police officer who reportedly left his police dog in a hot car for more than six hours.

A police dog in South Carolina was found dead after reportedly being left in a police car for more than six hours. According to Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook, the dog’s handler was suspended for five days without pay. This is not enough. The Labrador retriever mix named Turbo was only 22 months old and was allegedly left inside the car on a day that was 94 degrees.

According to other handlers, this man did not return to check on the dog at all during the six hours. When the officer returned, it was too late. Turbo allegedly had white foam around his mouth and died from organ failure two days later. This type of neglect cannot go unpunished. Turbo deserves better. Sign this petition and demand the officer reportedly involved is fired from the police department and then arrested.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Chief Holbrook,

A police dog named Turbo died because of the alleged neglect of one of your K9 handlers, David Hurt. Turbo was only 22 months old and he was reportedly left to die in a hot police car. According to other handlers, the officer did not return to Turbo during the duration of the six hours to feed him, give him water, or let him go to the bathroom. Currently, the handler is suspended for five days. However, this is not enough. We demand Hurt is fired and then arrested for his alleged lack of care for Turbo’s life.

Sincerely,

  1. I love our police officers, but I hate animal abusers. This was clearly animal abuse. The officer must be srrested, fired, and do jail time, never to be near an animal again. If he had left a human child in a hot car to suffer and die, he would go to prison. This poor dog deserves no less justice.

Fire the jackass and then throw him in jail! Not only did he leave the poor puppy locked in the car, he also neglected to walk him, or feed him or give him water!
This officer belongs in jail for animal cruelty!
Kill an animal – go to jail!!

  3. Police officers have to obey the same laws everyone else does. He cant hide behind that badge if nothing else he should be a roll model. Clearly he commited a crime and should be held accountable for it like anyone else. Suspend him pending his hearing. If hes charged with a felony he needs to find a new line of work.A mistake that resultsin death cannot be swept under the rug. Please dont show him favor, just do your job.

  4. Stephanie Geyser says:

Police dogs are the same as a police partner. Would this policeman leave his (human) partner locked in a hot car for 6 hours – without even a bathroom break? Added to which, a human partner chose to do the job. A dog partner didn’t have a choice.

  5. GOD DAM IT STOP WITH THE OH LETS JUST FIRE HIM OR THROUGH HIM IN JAIL NO LETS PUT HIM IN A HOT CAR ROLL UP THE WINDOWS, MAKE SURE YOU TIE HIM UP SO HE CAN’T MOVE AND LET HIM DIE. AN EYE FOR AN EYE THIS WAS AN INNOCENT ANIMAL THAT WAS FORCED TO WORK FOR A LIVING AND THEN TO LET THIS HAPPEN, KILL THIS BASTARD. FRY HIM HIM ALIVE. THIS IS THE ONLY JUSTICE THAT THERE IS FOR THIS HELPLESS ANIMAL THAT RELIED ON THIS BASTARD TO TAKE CARE HIM. HE LET HIM DIE SO HE SHOULD DIE AS WELL.

  6. un inrresponsable este señor

  7. This officer needs to be held accountable , if anyone . The police department preaches “DONT LEAVE ANIMALS IN HOT VEHICLES”, he left his partner in the vehicle for 6 hours . BS hold his ass accountable this could of been prevented .

  8. Tricia KatWrangler Welch says:

Officer David Hurt is someone I’d call to help me if a dog, or cat, was left in a hot vehicle. That should make this moron totally responsible for Turbo’s suffering and death.

Fire his sorry ass AND charge AND prosecute this idiot for FELONY ANIMAL ABUSE. NO slaps on the wrist. Not only did a young pup die horribly, K9 Handler Hurt did not have his PARTNER’S back. K9 Turbo was an officer of the law, and deserves the same justice any officer should get.

  9. If a civilian had done this it would have ended differently. He should be fired and held responsible for his actions! Like others have said this is a FELONY ABUSE!

  10. The epitome of irresponsible and stupidity. This cop does not deserve to wear a badge … such a disgrace to his profession. FIRED!

  11. The epitome of irresponsible and stupidity. This cop does not deserve to wear a badge … such a disgrace to his profession. FIRED! … if I already said it … then why can I not SEE it!

  12. Diana Helein says:

Are you fucking kidding me?! 5 days without pay for killing a fellow officer is NOT acceptable. Lock him in a hot car for 6 hours and fire his ass!!

  13. Jaime Perez says:

What a POS person this is. How could he be so callous and uncaring for a fellow officer?? He better get fired. He also deserves some serious jail time. Poor helpless Turbo, he didn’t deserve this horrible fate.

  14. Debbie Jankowski says:

He deserves the same treatment he put innocent Turbo through. Turbo would have given his life for the handler. This is absolutely inexcuseable and inhumane and he better be punished to the full extent of the law. Someone this evil definitely does not deserve to wear a badge. I would not trust him for 2 seconds. What a poor excuse for a human being much less an officer of the law.

  15. This pathetic excuse of a human, esp. a cop, is supposed to look out for and protect his community! He can’t even look out for and protect his canine companion! He needs to be fired, arrested, and made to never own a pet…. RIP TURBO

  16. Doesn’t anybody have a working brain anymore?? Inexcusable, irresponsible stupidity!

  17. with all the news on leaving babies, animals, in vehicles and he does this? so, he’s not charged for animal cruelty? WTF

  18. Are you kidding me?!?! A COP!!! He needs to be locked in a dog kennel in a warehouse and left to die!!

  19. Sherry Akridge says:

Suspended for five days!! That is unbelievable! He leaves his police dog in a hot car for more than six hours, and he gets five days suspension! Really? That is pathetic and a disgrace to police officers everywhere! Turbo, the police dog, suffered greatly in that car, everyone in that community, and especially that police department should be outraged!

  20. What a jerk!!! this police officer must be fired NOW!
