Officer Accused of Leaving Police Dog in Hot Car to Die Must be Fired and Prosecuted

Target: W.H. “Skip” Holbrook, Chief of Columbia Police Department in South Carolina

Goal: Fire and arrest the police officer who reportedly left his police dog in a hot car for more than six hours.

A police dog in South Carolina was found dead after reportedly being left in a police car for more than six hours. According to Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook, the dog’s handler was suspended for five days without pay. This is not enough. The Labrador retriever mix named Turbo was only 22 months old and was allegedly left inside the car on a day that was 94 degrees.

According to other handlers, this man did not return to check on the dog at all during the six hours. When the officer returned, it was too late. Turbo allegedly had white foam around his mouth and died from organ failure two days later. This type of neglect cannot go unpunished. Turbo deserves better. Sign this petition and demand the officer reportedly involved is fired from the police department and then arrested.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Chief Holbrook,

A police dog named Turbo died because of the alleged neglect of one of your K9 handlers, David Hurt. Turbo was only 22 months old and he was reportedly left to die in a hot police car. According to other handlers, the officer did not return to Turbo during the duration of the six hours to feed him, give him water, or let him go to the bathroom. Currently, the handler is suspended for five days. However, this is not enough. We demand Hurt is fired and then arrested for his alleged lack of care for Turbo’s life.

Sincerely,

FIRE!! this stupid neglectful ass wipe. These dogs work so hard and put there life on the line. This isn’t the first time a police officer has neglected a dog, it happens far to often. A lot of time these poor dogs are left in small cages for hrs. at a time. So Sad.

A suspension without pay is not nearly enough – he took Turbo’s life because of his unforgiveable neglect!!! Police dogs put in hours of training and are very loyal & dedicated companions – Turbo’s handler DOES NOT DESERVE LENIENCY for killing him!!! This dog was only two years old & had years of service ahead of him – cut short by an irresponsible handler!!! SIGNED & SHARED!

  3. Only 5 days without pay?! How about put him in a hot car and forget about him! Fire him permanently and never let him near another dog again!

Police are supposed to serve and protect, but they didn’t protect this poor dog! We tell citizens not to leave pets or babies in hot cars, but the cops can do it? This guy needs to be fired, to set an example for citizens that this is not tolerated, not even from their own! ?

  4. What the hell is the matter with him he should be fired he should know better of all people he should know better. You can’t let him get away with it . being suspended without pay for five days is bullshit. If the sergeant or Lieutenant with the captain doesn’t do anything about it and they should be set fire to because it makes them just as wrong .You people covering up for this crap in the Police Department and letting them get away with it shooting dog Leaving dogs in cars Isn’t going to put a stop to this it’s just bullshit

  5. When the very people that is supposed to uphold the law violates it,they should recieve the harshest punishment allowable. How do you expect anyone to respect judicial system or cops when they do as they please knowing not much will happen to them. What kind of an example is he.

  6. Once again, slap on the hand to a fellow officer – 5 days of suspension, big deal! Put him in the car – let’s see how long he would last. POS!!!

Must be fired period bec he neglect beautiful creature dog

  8. Charge him with animal abuse, fire his dumb ads.He obviously does not know how to handle a dog.

  9. Police get away with waaaay too much!!
    This dog was 100% helpless!!!
They have too much power to kill neighborhood dogs confined to their yard, yet feel justified to kill one when entering THEIR territory!
They know they can get away with it! Non- threatening dogs aree killed in their OWN yards.
THIS jerk should be fired, fined and pay for replacing a SERVICE animal.

  10. How dare he leave the poor dog in a hot car ???? He is NOT above the law. He of all people should have known better. Shame on him…he needs jail time

  11. A police officer should know better – I am sure he rescued dogs from hot cars many times – he’s an idiot – should be fired as a dog handler – not capable of looking after an animal

  12. Arlene briard says:

    Fire the asshole! Hi

  13. He knew better he just didn’t Care and he should never have had a dog in the first place. That is animal cruelty causing death. He should be charged with it and fired. He’s absolutely disgusting to do that to a fellow officer.

  14. Definitely not a good cop for the job; known facts regarding people and animal abuse is that those who abuse & neglect animals soon escalate their crimes and abuses towards people, if they haven’t already. Someone like this a danger to human beings and pets, and will continuously shame the police dept.

  15. Christopher says:

If your job is to be a dog handler and you cannot do that job, as evidenced here, you dont deserve that job. You dont deserve 5 day suspension, you deserve to be fired and have it on your record that you cannot be a dog handler (and with this blatant disregard, you shouldnt have pets at all). This record should follow nationally so that you dont end up in a situation where another precinct makes the mistake of making him a handler again. And I am sure the Union will argue in his defense, but that is where the union is wrong. How do you justify defending someone whose role it was was to protect his partner and instead he left his partner to die? How can any other uniformed officer trust him now?

  16. Eilleen Smith says:

You would think by now this idiot should have known better – poor dog, having him for a handler!!!

  17. Eileen Beaulieu says:

Here we go again, another totally irresponsible Officer leaves his canine partner in a car to die in 94 degree weather for 6 hours, unconscionable!!!! It’s bad enough when the public is that ignorant, careless etc. but a Police Officer – NO EXCUSE!!!!!!

  18. Debbie Briggs says:

How can anyone be so Stupid!!!! Fire this guy. Turbo died a horrific death

  19. He’s unfit for the job to say the least and his cruelty was intentional. He should have a prison sentence. Rest in peace puppy…you could have had a good life if only you didn’t end up in that monsters hands.

  20. If this had been anyone else they would have faced charges. Having a badge does NOT give you special rights and privileges. DO YOUR JOB AND CHARGE THIS POS DOG/COP K9 KILLER!! RIP sweet furbaby. THE COUNTRY IS WATCHING…..
