Officer Accused of Leaving Police Dog in Hot Car to Die Must be Fired and Prosecuted

Target: W.H. “Skip” Holbrook, Chief of Columbia Police Department in South Carolina

Goal: Fire and arrest the police officer who reportedly left his police dog in a hot car for more than six hours.

A police dog in South Carolina was found dead after reportedly being left in a police car for more than six hours. According to Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook, the dog’s handler was suspended for five days without pay. This is not enough. The Labrador retriever mix named Turbo was only 22 months old and was allegedly left inside the car on a day that was 94 degrees.

According to other handlers, this man did not return to check on the dog at all during the six hours. When the officer returned, it was too late. Turbo allegedly had white foam around his mouth and died from organ failure two days later. This type of neglect cannot go unpunished. Turbo deserves better. Sign this petition and demand the officer reportedly involved is fired from the police department and then arrested.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Chief Holbrook,

A police dog named Turbo died because of the alleged neglect of one of your K9 handlers, David Hurt. Turbo was only 22 months old and he was reportedly left to die in a hot police car. According to other handlers, the officer did not return to Turbo during the duration of the six hours to feed him, give him water, or let him go to the bathroom. Currently, the handler is suspended for five days. However, this is not enough. We demand Hurt is fired and then arrested for his alleged lack of care for Turbo’s life.

Sincerely,

THIS POLICE OFFICER IS A COMPLETE IDIOT WITH NO COMMON SENSE! AS A POLUCE OFFICER YOU ARE SUPPOSE TO SERVE AND PROTECT, HUMAN OR ANIMAL! JUST LIKE YOU DON’T LEAVE A CHILD IN A CAR IN SWELTERING HEAT NOR WOULD YOU A DOG! THE FACT THAT HE IS AN OFFICER DOES NOT GIVE HIM THE RIGHT TO GET AWAY WITH PUTTING THIS DOG IN HARMS WAY!THE FACT THAT HE LEFT THE DOG IN THE CAR PROVES THAT HE THINKS HE IS INVISIBLE BY DOING THIS! TOO MANY POLICE OFFICERS GETTING AWAY WITH TOO MUCH AND NO CONSEQUENCES! LEAVING A DOG IN A CAR IS UNACCEPTABLE BY ANYBODY!THIS OFFICER NEEDS TO KNOW THAT WHAT HE DID WAS ABSOLUTELY WRONG!IN NO WAY, SHAPE OR FORM SHOULD HE GET AWAY WITH IT! YOU CAN DEFINITELY TELL ALOT ABOUT A PERSON’S CHARACTER IN HOW YOU TREAT ANIMALS! THIS OFFICER’S CHARACTER IS WAY OUT OF LINE!

    • I cant believe a man who has his his partner who is there to help save his life and go after those guys who kill people or shoot u why was he forgotten u r a cop u have a k 9 u tell me 6 hrs before with that heat u dint go eat in a cool place or water u dint think of him o let me get him out u take him with u he works hes gone in to the academy and he gets repaid like this how sad I say he should get what they all ask for jail he killed him so he took his life cuz hes a cop no reason he should get out of this it’s sad how the dog suffered 6 hrs close to a 8hr shift well I hope he suffers as that dog did he may have saved your life many times what that poor dog felt dieing but he suffered so shall u give him jail we want it no dog cat any pet is forgotten thank u please push it

What the hell was he doing for 6 hours? It doesn’t even take that long to investigate a domestic dispute. No excuse you should lose his job. He sucks at it anyway apparently.

  3. This dog was his partner. What the hell was he doing for 6 hours that he completely left his “partner” in the hot car. He needs to lose his job and must be prosecuted. Training these dogs is a big expense in time and money and poor Turbo was not even 2 years old. Lock him up!

  4. If this had been a regular person, they would have been jailed, fined and charged with murdering a police officer. Hell, if a regular person left their pet in hot car and it died, they’d be charged with animal cruelty.
This officer not only murdered a fellow officer, he wanted tax payer dollars because training police dogs is very expensive!

  5. Sad state of affairs that this is what SC hires for their police force. This less than human idiot given the gift of a life to protect and serve along with him should be FIRED and never allowed to own another animal in his life. Unfortunately as we all know he will be given a slap on the wrist and continue as a policeman. SCARY would you want to put your life in this idiots hands. SAD DAY.. Let Karma have her day.

  6. This guy must never be allowed to work with a dog again presumable he didn’t choose to have a dog cos who allows a mate you value to perish. Fire him or put him on desk duties he is a shameful human and prosecute his thoughtless cruelty

  7. , David Hurt must be charged with even more serious penalty than the average citizen. HE KNOW THE LAWS BUT CHOSE TO IGNORE THEM. His job is to enforce laws not break them. Also I question if other handlers knew he hadn’t returned to the dog why didn’t they take steps to save the dog? Someone like David Hunt doesn’t have a place in law enforcement. Next he will forget a prisoner in the car and kill them .

  8. K9 officers give their all and risk their lives for their human partners. Those human partners have a basic duty of care to their K9 partners to ensure that they are not gratuitously placed in harm’s way. IT IS ABSOLUTELY INEXCUSABLE THAT THIS K9 OFFICER DIED, NOT AT THE HANDS OF OF A POLICE SUSPECT, BUT BECAUSE OF THE INEXCUSABLE CRIMINAL NEGLIGENCE OF HIS HUMAN PARTNER AND “HANDLER”. Officer Hurt showed a shocking and absolutely inexcusable lack of judgement or responsibility in this incident, which indicates that he does not have the judgement or temperament to work as a police officer.

  9. IS ANYONE ELSE HAVING TROUBLE SIGNING THESE PETITIONS? I CAN SHARE AND PLACE COMMENTS BUT CAN’T SIGN ARE THEY BLOCKING ANYONE WHO ISN’T A PREMIUM MEMBER?

  10. Did this moron ever receive any training? Was he ever tested for basic intelligence and a smidgen of humanity? It seems not. Throw the book at him, and fire him from his job. He clearly cannot be trusted to act with any common sense – let alone decency.

  11. I call bullshit! HE IS GUILTY AND SHOULD BE FIRED! Not only did he knowingly leave a police dog in a life threatening position, but it was revealed he disconnected the device which sounds a warning alarm when temperatures in the car exceed excessive heat! This is all a horrendous cover up, that would should not be dismissed. If this were a human officer it would be murder! A canine officer deserves the same respect!

  12. I dislike USING dogs to be sent into danger ahead of men who signed on willingly to face danger. These loving, loyal souls only want to be with their person and to please. They don’t know their person will send them into danger to save their own neck. This self serving asshole needs to be fired and charged for purposely killing this poor baby. This poor little guy suffered terribly before he died and this must not be swept under any rug. This maggot must be put on a registry just like a sex offender registry. Mug shot, name, address, crime, with photos, never to be around animals ever again, and published like a sex offender is. There is so much abuse and neglect; animals feel pain, fear. Heartbreak and confusion and people are so cruel. There must be new laws to protect them and severely punish anyone who harms them. Yes this crappy cop should be fired and charged for this crime.the world is watching.

  13. What a LAME punishment!!!! This guy deserves to lose his job for what he did!! I certainly wouldn’t want that piece of crap patrolling my neighborhood. If he forget his dog or even worse, did it on purpose, he really deserves to suffer just like that dog did. May he pay dearly for what he did!!!

  14. The cop looks like a moron

  15. This is so careless, there is no excuse

  16. Rose Coffey says:

Of all people to do this – a police K-9 handler? Totally unbelievable. He shouldn’t even have to be fired; he should quit in shame. Just can’t believe an officer would do this.

  17. Julia Edinger says:

THE LOOK ON HIS B**** FACE SAYS IT ALL ??
HE DIDNT GIVE A SHIT ABOUT THIS POOR FURBABY?
    MUST BE FIRED ASAP!!!

  18. Fired and never own another animal. My gosh, you were that dog’s life. Plus it is a horrible way to die, that dog was probably wondering why no one came to let him out as it suffered. I hope your Karma drags you down.

  19. Rachel Atkinson says:

Unbelievable! A police officer too! How low can you get? I hope he loses his job and karma comes to make him pay for what he has done.

  20. Not fit to be an officer, let alone have a canine companion. Sit him in a locked car at 94 degree heat for 6 hrs and see how he fares. Should suffer the same treatment as he did to the poor dog. And if he survives, punish to the max with fine, loss of job, jail time and tattoo forehead with words “animal abuser”.
