An alarming situation has come to light in Chandler, Arizona, where a rescue organization is reportedly under investigation for potential animal abuse. Concerns were raised by a Texas-based animal rescue, which had entrusted the Special Needs Animal Welfare League in Chandler with the care of a paralyzed dog named Butters, who had been apparently shot in the back.
This Texas rescue had agreed to transfer Butters and another dog to the Chandler-based organization, believing it would provide the specialized care these dogs needed. However, recent pictures reportedly showing Butters looking severely underweight raised serious concerns about the well-being of the animals in the care of this Chandler rescue.
Allegations of neglect and mistreatment prompted the Texas rescue to take action. They traveled to Chandler and apparently discovered what they describe as appalling conditions – dozens of dogs reportedly living in a Chandler home, with incessant barking and a disturbing, putrid odor. The Chandler police were alerted, and photos and videos of the situation were shared on social media to draw attention to the matter.
Reportedly, representatives from the Chandler rescue initially offered to address the allegations but failed to follow up. When journalists from Arizona’s Family news outlet arrived at the property associated with the rescue, they reportedly encountered an unpleasant odor and a lack of cooperation in verifying the living conditions of the animals. We must take action now.

The person who shot this innocent dog and the Chandler rescue facility! Some rescue!! It sounds like the Texas reuse followed up but none too soon! The Special Needs facility sound like a crock! It is a sad day for animal lovers when they learn that either shelter workers or rescue workers are involved in committing animal abuse and or cruelty. It is a complete betrayal of trust. I hope if these allegations are true against this rescue that they are held accountable.

I agree with Maria. It is a very sad day when we learn of mistreatment of any animals. Shelters are a safe place to heal from health conditions or trauma except this was not the case for butters. To have a dog which has been shot and crippled but then transported to a supposed safe rescue only to be further abused is heartbreaking. Animals can not escape their cells. They must endure poor treatment yet poor treatment is not appropriate at any time but it is evil for a dog like butters. He was probably a devoted dog but then his owners thought he would be a burden, shot him, and then he was treated like trash at the rescue. Will the day ever come when people such as these are convicted of a felony, pay for the cost of help and hope for Butters, get a court trial and hopefully serve timer in prison. Our laws, courts, legal system and judges feel these cases are trivial. If they were Butters I’m sure they wold feel differently. Now they should act on these charges! They way we treat animals defines us as the people we truly are with no exceptions.

I,Lorenza Camarena-Villegas Marrujo, feel that both places are needed to be shutdown for their actions on butters and face criminal charges, punishment for their actions, and prison time with out the possiblity of parole. I plead for justice on butters and the rest of the animals, l rest my case.

The police and local animal control agencies know about this lady (April Addison) and have done NOTHING! Multiple disabled and paralyzed dogs living outside in the Arizona heat, on concrete and gravel. Dogs videoed dragging themselves over the gravel to find nonexistent shade, or dogs whimpering because they are unable to move at all. This is documented and videoed and the local agencies do not care! To avoid having to deal with people, both the Chandler PD and Humane Society have disabled all comments on their Instagram pages….proving they know about this but won’t act!

I’m so sorry to hear about the abuse and neglect these dogs suffered at the hands of Special Needs Animal Welfare League in Chandler, AZ. It’s so heartbreaking that these animals were subjected to additional abuse and neglect at the hands of this organization, that was supposed to care for them. This organization needs to be punished and possibly shut down. I hope these fur babies recover, find loving homes and get justice.
