Justice for Sloths Allegedly Left Dying in Filthy Conditions

Target: Roger Young, Executive Director, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission

Goal: Launch a full criminal investigation into allegations of more than 50 sloths kept without electricity, heat, or running water at a failed exotic animal attraction.

A disturbing controversy intensified after officials, animal welfare advocates, and international sloth experts raised serious concerns regarding the reported deaths of more than 50 sloths connected to the now-closed Sloth World Orlando. Experts questioned how highly sensitive exotic animals may have been housed in conditions lacking electricity, heat, and running water without triggering immediate enforcement action.

Animal welfare advocates and conservation experts criticized current oversight procedures involving exotic animal permits and inspections. Dr. Rebecca Cliffe of The Sloth Conservation Foundation expressed skepticism regarding findings that no violations had occurred, arguing that the reported conditions may meet the threshold for animal cruelty. Officials are now calling for stronger regulation of exotic animal ownership and importation practices, including a ban on importing wild-caught sloths for private or commercial use.

Authorities have not filed criminal charges, and investigators continue reviewing enforcement procedures and permit standards connected to the case. If substantiated, these allegations would represent severe neglect involving vulnerable animals allegedly left in dangerous and unsuitable living conditions. Strong legal action and stricter oversight are necessary to help prevent future suffering involving exotic wildlife kept in captivity.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Executive Director Young,

Officials and animal welfare experts have raised alarms involving the reported deaths of more than 50 sloths housed in conditions lacking electricity, heat, and running water. Investigators and advocates continue questioning how such conditions may have existed without immediate intervention.

Experts have also challenged findings that no violations occurred, arguing that the alleged living conditions may have caused prolonged suffering to highly sensitive animals. If proven, the reported conduct would represent severe neglect and failures in oversight involving exotic wildlife.

We urge your agency to support a full criminal investigation, review permit enforcement procedures, and pursue all available penalties against any individuals found responsible for these alleged acts of neglect.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
