Target: Lori Lightfoot, Mayor of Chicago
Goal: Hold accountable the owners of a dog that allegedly attacked and killed a beloved family pet.
The tragic death of a miniature dachshund, Qweenie, has sparked urgent concerns about public safety in the Bronzeville neighborhood of Chicago. Allegedly attacked in her own backyard by a loose dog, Qweenie’s owner, Brencia Berry, is devastated and frustrated that the dog responsible for this horrific incident remains on the loose. Qweenie’s untimely passing has left her grieving owner desperate for accountability and answers, as the alleged killer dog continues to evade capture.
According to reports, the incident occurred while Qweenie was under the care of a dog sitter in a fenced yard. The aggressive dog allegedly managed to breach the area and fatally attacked Qweenie, as horrifying scenes unfolded with the sitter trying to protect her. Despite the police being called to the scene, the complaint was reportedly dealt with inadequately, as the aggressive escaped and no formal report was drafted due to bureaucratic failings between the police and the animal control agency. This apparent lack of communication delayed necessary action from authorities and left the community at risk from a freely roaming dog known for violence.
It is essential to address this issue and hold those responsible accountable. Immediate action must be taken to ensure the safety of local residents, particularly children and other pets. A comprehensive investigation into the aggressive dog’s ownership is crucial, along with implementing policies that will streamline communication between law enforcement and animal control agencies to prevent this kind of incident from happening in the future.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Mayor Lightfoot,
The heartfelt story of Brencia Berry and her beloved miniature dachshund, Qweenie, who was tragically killed by an allegedly aggressive dog, highlights a critical public safety issue in Bronzeville. Qweenie’s tragic demise has left her owner heartbroken, not only due to the loss of her pet but also because the apparently responsible dog is still at large. This situation is of grave concern as it seemingly poses a continuing threat to the safety of other pets and children in the vicinity of Perspectives/IIT Math & Science Academy. The community deserves to feel safe in their own backyards, yet the current circumstances have left many feeling vulnerable and anxious.
Despite police intervention at the scene, the alleged attacking dog managed to escape, and there seems to have been a lack of follow-through between the Chicago Police Department and Chicago Animal Care and Control, causing delays in accountability. A systemic breakdown in communication and reporting has apparently obstructed justice for Qweenie, as officials insisted on formal paperwork that should have been initiated immediately following the incident. Berry’s calls for assistance have demonstrated frustrations with the red tape that hinders the necessary response from the city, thus leaving a potentially dangerous dog in the neighborhood.
Immediate and effective action must be taken to hold the owners of the alleged killer dog accountable and ensure thorough investigation processes are put in place moving forward. The safety of our communities and the lives of our pets depend on it. We urge you to address this serious issue promptly to prevent any further tragedies while restoring confidence in city safety protocols.
Sincerely,

I will no doubt get repercussions here but the dog should have been with its owner! Why was it out by itself? I expect that it has had many beatings to make it this way. So please do not entirely blame the unfortunate dog as many dogs would naturally ‘ have a go’ at another dog as it is in their nature for dominance.A very serious and nasty situation but if anyone is to blame it is the bastard of an owner. This is the bugger who needs tracking down and dealing with.
Many condolences to the unfortunate heart broken family of the little pet dog whose fault it WAS NOT!
THE he only thing I can say here (again) is if this was my little dog then this bastard of a a so-called owner WOULD be living on borrowed time!!
Of that I could 100% guarantee!!!

I keep my dog with me, but I was also careful to choose a nonviolent breed (Sheltie). I never have to worry about him breaking through the fence and killing dogs, or worse yet, a neighbor’s toddler.
Yes, there are some breeds that will fight other dogs under certain circumstances. I’ve owned Chows before and they’re good dogs. Bred to be guardians, and very protective.
Other breeds were developed solely for aggression. They were never intended to be family pets.Like this dog, they’ll break out of the yard and go looking for victims. For some reason, these zero mistake dogs almost always seem to have the most irresponsible owners. Yes, I’m talking about pitbulls. They need to be heavily regulated.
When I was a mere kid (very many years ago now) these so named ‘pit bulls’ were correctly named ‘ Bull Teriers’ or slightly bigger breeds of ‘Bull Mastif’. I used to roll around on the ground with one of these at our small village post office with no fear at all. And do you know why? Because it had not been beaten, half starved, kicked, whipped, punched and MADE to kill smaller dogs by it’s bastard of a so-called owner who would then acquire smaller innocent little dogs for his dog to set upon and rip to pieces so it would know what to do when put in a dog fighting ring to hopefully make money for this motherfuck of an owner!
These unfortunate dogs are put through hell by these pieces of shit just to make money at the dogs expense!
And—if it does not perform to expectations, it is shot (if it is lucky) or beaten to death with iron bars. No problem, the fucker will just get another one to take it’s place! This is ongoing all of the time and these bastards need terminating for the good of the world. Wherever you look it is ALWAYS animals abused and tortured for monetary gain.
Not the dogs fault. This is what it has been trained to do! If anyone knows of any dog fighting rings, do not be afraid to anonymously report it as is the only way this sick practice can e gradually stopped!
