Success: Kiwis To Be Reintroduced to New Zealand Capital

Target: His Worship the Mayor Justin Lester of Wellington City in New Zealand

Goal: Praise the reintroduction of kiwi birds to New Zealand capital.

Kiwis are set to be reintroduced to Wellington, the capital of New Zealand, within the next decade. Kiwis officially made it off the endangered species list last year; while their numbers are still dropping, the rate is lower than it was years ago, and conservationists plan to protect 20,000 hectares of land to allow the birds to rebuild their numbers.

This is a very important move for New Zealand. Kiwis used to be much more numerous, numbering in the millions before they were picked off en masse by predators such as rats, stoats, and possums. Petitions such as this one were circulated, demanding a greater effort to save the population before it was too late. Thankfully, the capital has been vigilant in its efforts to trap predators, creating a safer environment for the birds, leading up to preparations for their return.

With so many species disappearing in recent years, the official return of one to an area is cause for celebration and relief. Sign this petition to thank Wellington for creating a safe environment for kiwis to return to.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mayor Lester,

Kiwi birds will be reintroduced to Wellington within the next decade, thanks to your efforts to make the area a safe environment for them. The birds had previously been nearly wiped out by predators, landing them on the endangered species list, but thanks to the city’s efforts in trapping these animals, kiwis’ numbers have slowly been able to rise enough to take them off the list.

The return of any previously endangered species is a cause for celebration in a time when too many species are threatened. Wellington has done a wonderful job in ensuring a safe place for kiwis to return to, and we salute you for it. Please keep up the good work, to ensure a full revival of the kiwi population in the future.

Sincerely,

New Zealand you should be proud of yourselves. Its so nice to read about good news for a change. Keep up the good work,it can be rewarding in the end. Hurray KIWI!!!

  2. The problem is that they murder the rats, stoats and possums. New Zealand has enough money to send them back safely to where they came from.

  3. Yolanda Bernhard says:

then the australian government has another reason to kill millions of animals, because the animals could be dangerous to the kiwis.
the greatest danger and the worst bacterium on this wonderful earth is and remains the human being. Unfortunately
