Goal: Identify and prosecute whoever scattered rodenticide-laced food along community dogs’ feeding routes, killing three dogs and leaving two others fighting for survival.
The dogs encountered what looked like ordinary food beside a familiar public park. Within hours, three were dead. Local animal feeders found several community dogs collapsing near a park bench, suffering convulsions and foaming at the mouth. Three dogs died while two others survived in critical condition and required intensive veterinary detoxification. Investigators subsequently discovered pieces of street food contaminated with a highly toxic restricted agricultural rodenticide along routes regularly used by the dogs.
Police have registered an FIR under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. The deceased animals were sent for post-mortem toxicology while investigators began reviewing CCTV footage and questioning nearby shopkeepers. Authorities are investigating whether someone deliberately placed the poisoned food. Community disagreements concerning street dogs have previously occurred locally, but investigators have identified no suspect. No court has established criminal liability.
This poisoning endangered more than its intended animal victims. Toxic bait scattered through a public space could also threaten pets, wildlife, or children who encounter contaminated material. Once identified, if evidence establishes deliberate poisoning, authorities should pursue the person responsible and seek penalties reflecting the calculated nature and deadly consequences of the act.
