Baby Duck Allegedly Tossed, Dropped and Injured: Demand Accountability

Target: Steve Wolfson, District Attorney, Clark County, Las Vegas, Nevada

Goal: Seek the strongest appropriate penalties in a case involving a juvenile duck allegedly tossed, dropped and left in visible pain.

What began as activity around a public fountain became a disturbing animal cruelty investigation involving a young wild animal. According to police and security accounts, surveillance footage showed a tourist removing a juvenile duck from its habitat area and handling the animal violently. Authorities allege that the duck was repeatedly tossed and shaken, dropped onto concrete, and had its wings forcefully pulled open.

Investigators further stated that when officers approached the suspect, she was uncooperative and was taken into custody. According to statements from the responding animal cruelty unit, the rescued duck was shaking intensely and appeared to be in such pain that rescuers could not touch one wing. The animal later received care while the matter proceeded through the criminal process.

Wild animals are not objects for amusement or mistreatment. f evidence ultimately substantiates these allegations, consequences should reflect the seriousness of the reported conduct and reinforce that cruelty toward vulnerable creatures carries meaningful accountability.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear District Attorney Wolfson,

An active criminal matter involves allegations concerning a juvenile duck removed from a public setting and subjected to repeated physical mistreatment. According to law enforcement accounts, surveillance footage captured conduct that included tossing, shaking and dropping the animal as well as forcefully pulling open its wings.

Authorities also stated that rescuers encountered a duck showing signs of significant distress and pain. These allegations remain unproven and must proceed through the legal process. At the same time, allegations involving a vulnerable young animal and reported visible suffering warrant careful review and determined prosecution.

We respectfully urge your office to pursue all appropriate legal action and seek the strongest lawful penalties if the available evidence substantiates these allegations. Please help demonstrate that cruelty proven against defenseless animals receives serious attention and meaningful consequences.

Sincerely,
