Remains of 55 Dogs Reportedly Found Dumped on Slope: Demand Justice

Target: Giovanni Fabrizio Narbone, Procuratore della Repubblica (Public Prosecutor) of the Court of Macerata, Italy

Goal: Ensure the full criminal investigation and prosecution of all individuals allegedly responsible for the discovery of the remains of 55 dogs on a hillside slope, and pursue all leads suggesting an organized network of illegal animal disposal.

Beginning in February with the alleged discovery of 15 dog carcasses by a volunteer walking in a remote area near a highway overpass, the number of remains found on a slope in Scossicci has reportedly risen to 55 — a figure that investigators describe as pointing not to an isolated incident but to a systematic and deliberate use of the site for illegal disposal. A 53-year-old man has been registered as a suspect in a file opened for the killing of animals, and a search of his home reportedly yielded paper documents, an agenda containing names, numbers and sums of money, a mobile phone, and other equipment. Critically, all of the dogs recovered were reportedly found without microchips — suggesting a deliberate effort to eliminate the traceability of each animal and prevent identification of where they came from or who was responsible for them.

The investigation has widened beyond the primary suspect to examine the potential responsibility of animal owners who may have handed animals over, and to reconstruct whether a functioning, organized network existed for the secret elimination of dogs. The notebook of names and sums of money allegedly found during the search raises the deeply troubling possibility that this was not the act of a single individual but of a broader criminal arrangement in which animals were paid for, collected, and secretly disposed of over an extended period.

The Macerata Prosecutor’s Office must pursue this investigation with the full weight of Italian animal protection law, and must follow every lead — including those pointing beyond the primary suspect to all those who may have participated in this purported network. Sign this petition to demand justice for 55 dogs whose lives were allegedly cut short.

PETITION LETTER:

Prosecutor Giovanni Fabrizio Narbone,

We are writing to urge your office to pursue the full and vigorous criminal investigation and prosecution of all individuals allegedly responsible for the discovery of the remains of 55 dogs on the slope at Scossicci. The deliberate removal of microchips from all of the recovered animals — reportedly confirmed by investigators — suggests not only an awareness that these killings were unlawful, but a calculated effort to prevent identification of the animals and those responsible for them. The agenda allegedly found during the search of the primary suspect’s home, containing names, numbers and sums of money, raises the possibility that a broader network of individuals may have been involved in handing animals over for illegal disposal.

We are deeply concerned that the scale and organization suggested by the evidence reflects conduct far more serious than any individual act of cruelty. If a network of individuals is found to have participated in this scheme, every one of them must be prosecuted to the fullest extent Italian law allows.

We respectfully but firmly demand that your office pursue this investigation without limitation, follow all evidentiary leads wherever they point, and ensure that every individual who played a role in the killing, disposal, or facilitation of these animals’ deaths is held fully criminally accountable. These 55 dogs had no voice — it is now the justice system’s responsibility to speak for them.

Sincerely,
