Nearly 300 Stray Dogs Allegedly Killed With Injections Demand Justice

Target: B. Shivadhar Reddy, Director General of Police, Telangana, India

Goal: Prosecute those reportedly responsible for the mass killing of nearly 300 stray dogs and enforce the strongest penalties under animal cruelty laws.

Reports emerging from a rural area indicate that nearly 300 stray dogs were killed over several days after being injected with fatal substances. According to complaints submitted by an animal welfare organisation, the dogs were rounded up, administered lethal injections, and their bodies dumped on village outskirts. If accurate, this reflects a coordinated act of extreme cruelty against defenseless animals.

The alleged killings were said to have been organised by local authorities following public pressure over stray dog concerns. Instead of implementing lawful and humane measures such as sterilisation, vaccination, and animal birth control programmes, authorities reportedly chose a violent and illegal approach. The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, explicitly prohibits such actions, and established guidelines clearly outline non-lethal solutions for managing stray animal populations.

This case matters far beyond one community. If allegations of mass killing by injection are not met with decisive accountability, it risks normalising unlawful violence against animals under the guise of public convenience. Strong enforcement is essential to affirm that cruelty, even when carried out by those in power, will not be tolerated and that humane, science-based solutions must be followed.

PETITION LETTER:

To DGP Reddy,

We are writing to express grave concern over reports that nearly 300 stray dogs were killed through organised and deliberate acts involving fatal injections. It appears these animals were eliminated over several days and disposed of without regard for law or life.

The allegations suggest individuals entrusted with public responsibility sanctioned or facilitated these acts instead of pursuing lawful animal management methods. India’s animal protection framework clearly mandates humane approaches such as sterilisation and vaccination, and the alleged actions stand in direct violation of these principles.

We respectfully urge your office to ensure a thorough, transparent investigation and to pursue the strongest possible legal action against all those reportedly involved. Accountability in this case will send a clear message that mass cruelty against animals will not be excused or ignored.

Sincerely,
