Target: Yang Sung-dong, President and CEO of Korean Broadcasting System (KBS)
According to the Animal Freedom Alliance, the man knew that Oh Sun-yi was a pet due to her leash but proceeded to slaughter her without attempting to find her guardian. It is further claimed that he had a history of animal cruelty, including dragging a dog with a snare and strangling it shortly before killing Oh Sun-yi. The broadcast failed to highlight the victim’s suffering and instead focused on the perspective of the alleged abuser.
Such a depiction is deeply troubling and undermines efforts to combat animal cruelty. Media outlets have a responsibility to handle sensitive topics with care and should not inadvertently glorify or excuse harmful actions. Ask KBS to address this issue by issuing a public apology and providing a corrective broadcast that acknowledges the gravity of the situation and the importance of animal welfare.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear President Yang Sung-dong,
I am writing to express deep concern over a recent episode of “Animal Is Excellent,” which glorified a man who reportedly kidnapped and slaughtered a pet dog named Oh Sun-yi. Featuring a person who has been accused of such serious animal cruelty without adequately addressing the severity of his alleged actions is troubling and potentially harmful.
According to reports, the man knew that Oh Sun-yi was a beloved pet but proceeded to slaughter her without seeking her owner. Additionally, there are allegations of prior instances of animal abuse connected to this individual. The broadcast’s focus on his perspective, without highlighting the suffering inflicted upon the animal and her guardian, may inadvertently minimize the seriousness of animal cruelty.
I urge you to take immediate action by issuing a public apology and producing a corrective broadcast that responsibly addresses this matter. By doing so, KBS can demonstrate its commitment to ethical journalism and the promotion of compassion towards animals.
Sincerely,
[Your Name Here]
