Save Koalas and Gliders From Massive Coal Mine Expansion

Target: Jamie Merrick, Director-General of Queensland Department of Environment and Science

Goal: Do not approve controversial coal mine expansion that would demolish habitats for endangered species and drive up detrimental emissions.

The Minister for the Environment in Australia recently vowed that no more animals within the nation would become extinct. She even touted a plan of action to safeguard them. Meanwhile, a state government is busy mulling a proposed coal mine expansion that could endanger many threatened species.

The proposal involves a metallurgical coal mine operated by conglomerate BHP. While this entity likes to proclaim itself an environmental leader, the extension in Queensland would invade over 9,000 acres of precious land. Animals that call these habitats home include greater gliders and koalas. Worse yet, the company wants this extension to last nearly a century, which would ensure the environmental effects of associated emissions would be crushing.

Sign the petition below to urge leadership to veto this dangerous proposition.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Director-General Merrick,

At a time when the world has been placed on high alert about climate—and at a time when this nation has vowed to curb its own detrimental contributions and protect endangered animals—you are considering imperiling all of these critical objectives. BHC’s  90-plus-year-long metallurgical coal mine expansion would seriously set the country back in reducing its net zero emissions goals. Moreover, it would place thousands of hectares of habitats housing endangered species at dire risk.

The people, from indigenous populations to law enforcement, have dissented against coal’s expanding footprint. They desperately want their leaders to wake up and protect our planet. Please honor their wishes. Do not approve another century of unchecked environmental destruction.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

  5. Basta ya de tanto salvajismo y destruccion!!!!

  6. It’s bad enough that you allow gliders to be poached with impunity to be sold as ‘pets’ but add this to your list of sins and they will be gone in the wild. The whole idea it disgusting. End it while you can.

Why are animals always the last to be considered? They should always be protected!

Do not approve the controversial coal mine expansion! It is the opposite of saving the planet from all the devastation man has put in motion! Stop all this environmental destruction!!!!!!!

    Always opt for green initiatives!!!!!

  10. ANIMALS shall be PROTECTED, and their habitats are SACRED!
This is an EXTREME ENVIRONMENTAL CRIME!!!!!

Please do not approve a coal mine expansion that would destroy habitats for endangered species. This would be catastrophic.

  12. Joseph Kenosky says:

DO NOT kill these animals and take their home.

  13. Our Mother Earth cries at the attacks of humans on herself and the other creatures that share their world with us. We are meant to keep other species safe and well. That is our job! The world would be boring and without joy if only humans existed.

    Please don’t take their habitat.

  16. Well, here we go again.
Bloody greedy grasping non-caring sodding human beings well on their way to destroying the world.
The rain forests, the oceans, the jungles. Anywhere that looks remotely ‘green’ the parasitic bastards will destroy it for monetary gain. And SOD any animals and creatures that annoyingly get in their way!
This is going to carry on until there is NO green areas and animal habitat left for the greedy bastards to pillage!
It seems that the so-called powers to be, and governing bodies etc could not give a shit as long as their big houses and even bigger bank balances remain safe.
Pathetic waste of space bastards all of them!
They could, quite easily put a stop to this pillaging for greed but just cannot be bothered.
Soon there will be no green spaces or forests to rape then these grasping company owners will be fucked as there will be nowhere left to destroy!

The world will be barren, the oceans bare and dead, the eco system totally buggered, and planet earth packed with so many humans that no one will hardly be able to move.
Killing each other will become second nature, ( not far from that right now) there will be nowhere to go, and no escape from each other.
I believe that only sensible ‘people power’ can begin to resolve this serious problem that is happening ‘right now’!
Without seeming morbid, our world is on a downward slope and is not going to climb back up anytime soon.
Power must be given to the worlds major forces, Army, Navy, Airforce etc to stop all of these money – grabbing and world destroying parasites.
And if they will not comply, then terminate the bastards.
If anyone has any better ideas please reply and do not hold back with your views.
Something has got to be done pretty soon before our world Is completely destroyed by human greed!!

  17. What kind of idiot would even CONSIDER giving this the go ahead??
Jon White, you are SO right! They are parasitic bastards indeed….
