Success: South Korean Capital Now Dog-Meat Free

Target: Park Won-soon, Mayor of Seoul

Goal: Applaud Seoul for shutting down its last dog slaughterhouse.

The capital of South Korea is now officially dog meat-free, the last remaining canine slaughterhouse having been shut down. Such locations have been closing rapidly over the past several months, and the mayor of Seoul has announced plans to enact an official ban on slaughtering dogs for their meat.

This is a tremendous victory in the fight to phase out the dog meat market across Asia. Many Asian countries still butcher these poor animals for popular dishes, even hosting festivals in which the public can scarf down these animals for a fee. Lately, though, Korea has bowing to extensive pressure to stop consumption of dogs. Petitions such as this one have been circulated to shut down farms and make the killing of dogs for their meat illegal.

South Korea has just become a little safer for dogs, and we can only hope other cities in Asia will soon follow. Sign this petition to thank Seoul mayor Park Won-soon for helping to make this possible.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mayor Park,

Thank you for your aid in making Seoul dog meat-free. The last remaining canine slaughterhouse has been closed, and news has spread of your plans to enact a full ban on the killing and sale of dogs for their meat. This is a great step forward in the fight to phase out the dog meat market across Asia.

For years, innocent dogs have been led to the slaughter, turned into delicacies across the continent. Festivals have been held where people can scarf down these dishes for a fee. Your decision has turned the tides and made Seoul a safer place for thousands of dogs. While a small victory, it is a victory nonetheless, and we can only hope other cities in Asia will follow your example. Thank you for saving the lives of thousands of dogs.

Sincerely,

Whilst this may be a victory for the dogs in Seoul, I worry that those who still think it acceptable to consume dog meat will simply source it elsewhere.
Closing down slaughter houses, which were illegal anyway there, does not automatically mean that no more dogs will end up being killed for consumption. Old habits die hard…. Hope I’m wrong.

    • Elizabeth I agree with you. These Asian slant eyed dog and cat murderers need to e wiped off the planet.

    • I agree, too. Although the official shut-down here at least sends a needed social message, as long as they don’t also ignore any hidden, or new, ones to spring up or continue unimpeded. It’s not wise to blindly trust those who were untrustworthy in this regard in the past. They must EARN that slowly built up trust first.

  4. Asian countries as a whole have no respect or empathy for any
animals. They are barbaric with some of the horrific things
    they do.

  5. This is’nt over there are STILL MONSTERS AND THEY HAVE TOO BE ALL CAUGHT AND PUT AWAY NO INNOCENT ANIMAL IS SAFE. SO PLEASE DO’NT STOP MAKING THE LAWS FOR KILLING AND EATING ANIMALS THEY WILL STILL SUFFER BECAUSE OF UGLY HUMANS BEINGS THAT THINK THAT ANIMALS SHOULD BE EATEN THERE WILL BE UNDER GROUND SHOPS PLEASE PUT THOSE KILLERS IN PRISON FOR THE SAFETY OF ALL INNOCENT ANIMALS.
