Success: Teacher Who Fed Puppy to Snapping Turtle Charged With Animal Cruelty

Target: Lawrence G. Wasden, Attorney General of the state of Idaho

Goal: Praise Attorney General Office in Idaho for charging a teacher with animal cruelty.

In March, Robert Crosland, a teacher in Idaho, fed a sick dog to a snapping turtle during class. Several students agreed with Crosland’s action stating it was the circle of life and the dog was going to die anyway.  This was not the circle of life, snapping turtles should not eat dogs and not only did the dog die in this situation, but the turtle died shortly after as well.

This teacher’s actions were cruel and the matter in which the dog died was inhumane. The dog should’ve been taken to vet where he was able to get legally euthanized. The attorney general office agreed and thanks to efforts of communities such as ForceChange, our petition to get the teacher charged with animal cruelty was heard. After a three-month investigation, Crosland was charged with animal cruelty. In the state of Idaho, he was only able to be charged with a misdemeanor. However, he is facing up to 6 months in jail and a $5,000 fine.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Attorney General Wasden,

I commend you on the action taken by the Idaho Attorney general’s office to charge Robert Crosland, the teacher who fed a dog to a snapping turtle. The steps taken to show that animal cruelty is never alright, no matter what the situation is, is encouraging for animal rights. Robert Crosland was charged with animal cruelty despite the backlash from some of his students and parents that supported Crosland and his actions.

Thank you for getting justice for the dog that died. The dog deserved better in this situation and now thanks to you, Robert Crosland is facing the charges that he deserves. Again, I applaud you for taking action against this teacher who committed this heinous crime and charging him with animal cruelty.

Sincerely,
