Don’t Kill Homeless Dogs and Cats Before World Cup Event in Russia

Target: Pavel Kolobkov, Russian Sports Minister

Goal: Do not allow local officials in 11 Russian cities to cull homeless pets before the FIFA World Cup event.

Russia will be hosting this year’s FIFA World Cup in 11 different cities across the country. In order to “ensure security and a pleasant stay,” the Russian government has authorized these cities to kill thousands of homeless dogs and cats living on the streets, a move similar to one taken before the Sochi Winter Olympics. We must demand that a more humane solution be reached that does not cause harm to these animals.

The innocent cats and dogs of Russia do not deserve to be killed simply because they have nowhere else to go. Sign this petition and demand that the sports minister keep his word and ensure that no homeless pets are harmed in the hosting cities.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Minister Kolobkov,

Russia has a massive stray pet population, with over two million dogs and cats believed to be living in cities without homes. While this is a serious issue that deserves to be addressed, these animals deserve to be treated humanely and with respect. They do not deserve to be killed off in droves in the cities hosting the FIFA World Cup simply because their presence is inconvenient or looks bad.

We, the undersigned, ask that you ensure that these innocent animals do not meet the same sad fate so many others had before the Sochi Winter Olympics and other major events in your nation. Please do the right thing and ensure these animals are given humane treatment.

Sincerely,

  1. This is an utter disgrace ! Shame on this country! Why allow Russia or any other country who partakes in this cruelty and animal abuse , host any major event? “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated !”

    • So right, Gail. Cheating Russia should not be hosting ANY event. It is essentially a totally corrupt power that rules, with those at the top living in luxury while the rest of the country starves, as well as its animals. What bribe was offered here? Avoid watching any of this. What a shameful and disgraceful act to even consider mass slaughter of these animals. The world needs to express its anger NOW …..

There is no mention of how they intend culling. If they do go ahead anyway, they must be pressured to do it humanely

  2. Kyle Yaskinovich says:

As Putin’s best friend and protege often says… “SAD!” Here’s your chance Russia to show that you actually have a heart. Oh wait, Putin probably thinks that’s a sign of weakness. Come on, we all know the tough guy act is just to hide the scared little boy inside who thinks it’s the only way to garner respect. I bet that scared little boy likes cats and dogs. Don’t be afraid to let him out, at least for this cause. The animals will say, “Spasibo almighty Putin.”

  3. Denise Devereux says:

People of the World have the moral integrity and REFUSE TO PARTICIPATE or ATTEND this World Cup if this is going to be their cruel practice.
Russian people find these animals homes or establish a Non Kill Animal Shelter where they can be housed and fed until homes are found.
If you have enough money to send men to the ridiculous moon when man and other species are dying on this planet and have enough money for nukes and weapons then you should first be able to look after your people and your Russian animals. God’s Wraith on all those perpetrators and enablers and their loved ones that allow this to happen. “The Morale Progress of a Country can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” MH

  4. I think that is terrible. I would not attend to save these animals. People should ban it.

  5. Shame on Russia, shame on the committees that allowed the world cup to be there. Same for S.Korea, and last time China. Shame on Olympic committee for not giving a flying crap about how cruel to animals these host cities/countries are. And to the stupid, insensitive people who support this. Have these events in cities/countries that respect animal lives. I am not going to watch any of the Olympics. Hope American athletes do great but I can’t watch knowing that dogs and cats are brutally tortured before being killed to eat because of their stupid, unfounded culture that pain and suffering will make their meat more tender. If you believe that crap, hey, there is a bridge in Brooklyn that I can sell to you.

  6. `Barbara V. says:

This is well past despicable. There are no adjectives horrible enough to describe any human who would do a thing like this to innocent creatures. They are homeless BECAUSE of sick, indifferent, cruel people to begin with, now the sickos want to turn around and kill what is their fault from the get-go. If no one stops them who could, may they be cursed along with the perpetrators. There are too many evil humans in this world.

  7. This is beyond detestable and disgusting and it must not take place. These animals deserve a chance and that means shelters and spay and neuter clinics.

WE MUST BOYCOTT THE GAMES IF THAT IS HOW THEY FEEL ABOUT THE LIVES OF POOR INNOCENT ANIMALS! DO WHAT IS RIGHT AND HELP THESE ANIMALS DON’T MURDER THEM.

    THE WHOLE WORLD IS WATCHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. How could it be possible that in a ‘civilized country’ like Russia, homeless dogs could be found? Don’t owners register their pets? Aren’t they supposed to have tags with the pet’s name and the owner’s phone number? Aren’t there any animal regulations?

  9. here we go the sochi Olympics all over again.. same story different year.. not a dam thing has changed. And I don’t figure they ever will.. prayers for all the strays they gonna need em

  10. “DO NOT KILL CATS AND DOGS BEFORE WORLD CUP EVENT IN RUSSIA”, DON’T KILL, EVER! THESE PEOPLE AR MONSTERS!

  11. Elaine Rutland-Smith says:

WHY ARE WE ACTUALLY ALLOWING THESE COMMUNIST HEATHENS TO HOST EVENTS WHEN THEY DO NOT RESPECT LIFE !! SHOULD BE CONTROLLING THROUGH SPAY AND NEUTARING AND EDUCATING SIMPLETONS !!

  12. lisa atkinson says:

Ensure security and pleasant stay? why are the dogs and cats bomber’s? the fact is you want to get rid so people visiting wont see because you know visiters will be disgusted.

  13. A stay in your rotten country would only be “PLEASANT” if you were introducing and starting to IMPLEMENT both a trap/neuter/release (TNR) program for these abandoned animals AND/OR a nation-wide ADOPTION program! Anything less than these would never make ME feel “secure” in visiting! You selfish bastards, only seeking to save YOURSELVES from the feeling of SHAME for letting this human-caused problem go on so long without doing a damn thing PROGRESSIVE AND COMPASSIONATE about it! Put the animals’ well-being BEFORE yourselves, or suffer the consequences of your cold-hearted ways!

  14. Mr Kolobkov….there must be a better solution to the over population of Russia’s animals….had it been taken care of sooner you wouldn’t be in such a sad predicament….now through no fault of the animals they are sentenced to die…it seems to me A SIN….PLEASE DO YOUR VERY BEST TO FINDING OTHER ALTERNATIVES….HUMANS ARE THE KEEPERS OF GODS CREATURES,NOT THEIR KILLERS….If nothing is done to prevent such a travisty it will never be solved and countless of animals will die due to the STUPIDITY of the human race…thank you

  15. Russia needs to implement humane measures to deal with the stray cats and dogs, and not because of the World Cup. This should have been done a long time ago, but it’s not too late to start. Do it, Russia, and it will make your country look better in the eyes of the world than if visitors to Russia came and saw no stray animals because you killed them.

Please save these precious and innocent dogs and cats from such sadism and evilness. The precious dogs and cats deserve to live the same as us human beings and not murdered just for the
FIFA World Cup. This sadism and evilness committed against such innocent and defenceless dogs and cats must not happen and they must be protected not murdered.

  17. agree all above

  18. Man made problem, so take care of it the right way … spay and neuter! So sad you have let this get out of control at the expense of these innocent animals.
