Success: Serial Cat Killer Given Maximum Punishment

Target: Sharon A. Chatman, Santa Clara County Superior Judge

Goal: Thank judge for delivering the maximum possible penalty for a man found guilty of torturing and killing over a dozen cats.

A man recently convicted of torturing and slaying over a dozen cats will finally be spending time behind bars thanks to a judge’s decision. The man, 26-year-old Robert Farmer of San Jose, California, had wrangled neighborhood cats while under the influence of methamphetamine before torturing and murdering them. Now, thanks to outcry from pet owners, and petitions such as this one from ForceChange, the judge has agreed that Farmer poses a threat to society and has sentenced him to 16 years in jail — the maximum penalty allowed under law.

The killing spree had occurred over a two-month period in 2015. Video footage showing a man luring cats into his backpack had led investigators to the man’s vehicle in a parking lot, where they discovered him sleeping next to a dead cat in a trash bag and evidence strewn throughout the car of his grisly exploits. A necropsy revealed that at least one cat may have been sexually assaulted.

While Farmer’s case was delayed numerous times thanks to his defense attorney, he eventually pleaded guilty and will now be paying for his horrific crimes while pet owners can get the closure they need knowing justice has been served. Sign this petition to thank this judge for standing up for the animals and making sure this serial cat killer will be off the streets for years to come.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Judge Chatman,

We thank you for ensuring that Robert Farmer, the man who tortured and killed over a dozen cats, will face the maximum penalty for his crimes. The unthinkable cruelty and savagery these cats were subjected to has haunted their owners for the past two years, and it is high time that justice was served.

Cases such as Farmer’s highlight the need for animal abuse registries nationwide, but in the meantime we are grateful for instances such as this where justice is served. We, the undersigned, wish to thank you for giving these pet owners the closure they need and for keeping animals safe.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

    Thank you Judge Chatman,
You are indeed a brave and ethical man. You took it upon yourself to be one of the first to actually protect animals and humans from the horrendous damage that cruelty inflicts. People are also harmed when such inhumane behaviours occur; they are further traumatised and rendered helpless when the issue is not understood as a serious threat to our universal humanity.
When you put this man in jail long term it highlighted the links between abuse of living things. Children, adults, society as a whole will benefit because somebody proved that we can function with insight, belief and clear intent.

  8. Thank you for taking this sick sadistic violent criminal off the street! Violence of any kind against any living creature must carry a mandatory lengthy prison sentence and very lengthy parol period. Stop violence in our communities by demanding long mandatory sentences for theses dangerous violent criminals. May God bless you Judge Chatman it is about time the Courts saw these heinous crimes for what they are. We the public already know that 1 in 5 animal perpetrators turn to small children and spousal abusers. Yet most Judges ignore this fact?
Sincere condolences to the cats families who are devastated and will possibly never get over the murder of their fur kids.
