Target: Judge Gary Cohen, Chilliwack Provincial Court
Goal: Praise jail sentences for men caught beating cows and dragging them from chains.
Three men recently convicted of animal abuse for their roles in abusing cows at a dairy farm have been sentenced to jail time. Two of the men, Chris Vandyke and Jamie Visser, were sentenced to 60 days in jail and are not allowed to care for animals for three years. The third man, Travis Keefer, received seven days in jail, and cannot care for animals for one year.
The men, all former employees of Chilliwack Cattle Sales, were caught on camera kicking, punching, and beating cows with rakes, canes, and other implements. In an undercover investigation by rights group Mercy for Animals, the men were also seen tying chains around the necks of sick and injured animals and using tractors to lift and drag them to their destinations. Some cows suffered from open wounds and oozing infections.
In total, 20 animal cruelty charges were laid against workers. Three more of the company’s employees and one of its owners are still awaiting trial for animal cruelty charges in relation to the same investigation.
Animal abuse in the farming industry is rampant. These harsh punishments will send a message to farm workers that the government takes animal abuse very seriously. Sign the petition below to applaud these sentences, which ensure that justice is served for the animals that were mistreated.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Judge Gary Cohen,
Three men were recently sentenced to jail for their roles in the abuse of animals at a dairy farm. The men were caught kicking, punching, and beating cows with rakes, canes, and other objects. They were also caught tying chains around cows’ necks and using tractors to drag them across the premises. Several of the farm’s cows were found to have been neglected, with open sores and oozing infections left unattended to.
With cruelty rampant in the farming industry, these sentences will send a strong message that animal abuse will not be tolerated. Not only will this sentence ensure that the beaten and tortured animals receive justice, but will help deter potential offenders in the future. We, the undersigned, applaud you for taking a stand against animal abuse.
Sincerely,
[Your Name Here]

Great that they have been sentenced but, hardly long enough.Telling them that they can’t work with animals for 3 years and 1year,is ridiculous, they should never be allowed to work with animals as again!
But we all know that they will and no one will know!
THANK YOU! At least it’s a start, but a more stringent sentence should be imposed, as this type of subhuman should never be permitted to work with ANY ANIMALS(S) in the future!
MUST STOP BLOODY HUMAN MONSTROSITY – THIS IS NOTHING TO DO WITH BUSINESS, BUT WE DEAL HERE WITH PSYCHOTIC MENTALITY, HELLISH HABITS AND ENDLESS HUMAN STUPIDITY… ALL ANIMAL FARMING IS HIGHLY QUESTIONABLE IN EVERY WAY, INCLUDING OUR BLOODY MARKET THAT ACCEPTS SO-CALLED ANIMAL “PRODUCTS” MAKING PROFITS ON MILLIONS OF BRAINLESS CONSUMERS WHO DO NOT WANT TO KNOW ABOUT “WHAT” THEY PAY FOR AND CONSUME.. WE ARE A VERY SICK AND VERY BLOODY SOCIETY! Thank you everyone who understands and PROTESTS!!
hope these pussies get ass raped in jail now. hell awaits these animal abusing turds now.
Why can’t these animal abusers pictures be shown. The newspapers can show photographs of criminals so why not Animal Petitions???
Thank you for justice being enforced!
It is a slap on the wrist, we need to push for stronger laws. If they enjoy doing this to helpless Animals, then they will do it to any helpless human being.
Great, I hope that in jail they get the treatment they themselves gave. Or at least milked in the ass!
Otherwise this is nowhere near a punishment!
GREAT NEWS! And maybe they’ll suffer horribly in there! They deserve it!
That’s all??? A pathetically short jail time AND THEY CAN WORK WITH ANIMALS AGAIN!!??? This is shameful and sends the message that inhumane animal treatment is ok! This is not ok and a much longer punishment should have been given!!!
I agree the punishment is inadequate for these cruel and dehumanized dangerous creeps! And allowing them to work with animals again is outraguos!!
US treats animal abusers like it is nothing. US gov’t MUST make strong animal abuse laws! People must constantly demand better animal welfare & strong punishment for any animal abuser including the ag business, which is notoriously abusive.
That’s their sentence?? You have to fricken kidding!! That is why this abuse goes on because there are no consequences or minimal consequences. I just pray for karma like the hunter who got crushed by an elephant recently.
THIS sentence FOR short term IT wasn’t enough for JUST 1 ONE week?????THIS IS Ridiculous IT COULD BE jocking THAT IS REALLY unfair. SIGNED TO END CRUELTIES OF INNOCENT HELPLESS Defenseless AND VOICELESS CREATURES FROM GOD AND STOP Being INHUMANE RESPECT LIVES INNOCENT ANIMALS and ALL ABUSERS OF INNOCENT ANIMALS SHOULD BE PUNISHED IN JAIL for long periods of years. SIGNED TO ACTION NOW FOR ANIMALS RIGHTS and ANIMALS PROTECTION.
You get more jail time than that for failure to pay a parking ticket! This teaches them nothing!
Just imagine the outcry if a person were treated this way. It should be considered that all animals suffer pain. The sentence should reflect the pain caused and not the species. People acting in this way should. NEVER be allowed work in the same capacity again. They are highly likely to seek revenge on the animals they come into contact with….. M.
Oh yeah. 60 days and one week is really going to send a message about animal cruelty!! BS. This needed to be at least one year in order to get their attention. They know they will get off light. That is why it is still going on. Only way to stop this is to come down HARD on anyone abusing animals Shameful. Shame on judge that came up with tjiscrappy sentence.
Not enough jail time and the fact that they will EVER be able to work with animals again is not acceptable to me!
I want stiffer fines/longer jail terms/no animal contact for life!
Dairy farming is essentially animal cruelty, which is practiced so commonly in many countries, including of course NZ, where dairy farming is a major part of its primary industry.
