Goal: Prosecute every person responsible for capturing approximately 50 community dogs and abandoning them in a remote forest where they faced dehydration, starvation, and predator attacks.
One day, familiar community dogs disappeared from the streets they had always called home. Instead of remaining among the neighborhoods where they were known and cared for, they were rounded up, crammed into an enclosed transport vehicle, and abandoned deep inside a remote forest with no food, water, or hope of survival.
According to the First Information Report, unidentified individuals posing as municipal dog catchers captured nearly fifty community dogs before loading them into an unventilated commercial vehicle. The animals were transported far from their established territories and abandoned in dense woodland without access to drinking water, food, or veterinary care. Animal welfare advocates have warned that such displacement may have exposed the dogs to severe dehydration, starvation, territorial conflicts with unfamiliar packs, and attacks from wild predators. Police have registered a criminal investigation under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Detectives are currently reviewing surveillance footage, highway transit records, and eyewitness accounts to identify the vehicle and those responsible. The investigation remains active, and no court has determined criminal liability.
This incident represents far more than the relocation of animals. Community dogs depend on familiar surroundings to survive, and abandoning them in an unfamiliar forest could have subjected them to prolonged suffering and possible death. Once identified, those who planned, authorized, or carried out this operation should be prosecuted to the fullest extent permitted by law so that similar incidents do not occur again.
