Husky Burned Alive: Fight for Tougher Sentence

Target: Tawee Sodsong, Minister of Justice, Bangkok, Thailand

Goal: Ensure that ongoing appellate proceedings result in a sentence that reflects the gravity of the offense committed against a Siberian Husky named Molly, who died after being set on fire.

A beloved family pet survived escaping home only to encounter unimaginable suffering moments later. According to official reports, a two-year-old female Siberian Husky named Molly sustained catastrophic burn injuries after a neighbor intercepted the dog and set her on fire.

Authorities opened a criminal case following the incident, which animal welfare advocates describe as one of the most disturbing recent instances of cruelty in Thailand. According to investigators, Molly suffered extensive full-body burns and severe internal injuries before ultimately dying despite efforts to save her. The Songkhla Provincial Court convicted the neighbor and issued a preliminary ruling that included a suspended sentence and probation. However, animal welfare organizations have appealed, arguing that the sentence does not adequately reflect the severity of the offense. The matter is now before a higher appellate court, and the sentence is not yet final.

Because a conviction has already been entered, this case centers on whether the sentence imposed reflects the gravity of the offense, not on whether the underlying conduct occurred. A defenseless companion animal was subjected to deliberate burning that resulted in prolonged suffering and death. The case has also prompted broader public discussion regarding whether existing penalties sufficiently deter severe acts of animal cruelty. Strong enforcement of Thailand’s animal protection laws is essential to protect vulnerable animals and reinforce public confidence in the justice system.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Minister Sodsong,

According to official accounts, a dog named Molly was intentionally set on fire by a neighbor after wandering from her home, suffering catastrophic burns before dying from her injuries. The neighbor has already been convicted; what remains before the appellate court is whether the sentence imposed reflects the severity of the offense.

Please ensure that this case receives every available prosecutorial and appellate resource and that the final sentence reflects the gravity of the offense. Given the extreme and preventable suffering this animal endured through deliberate cruelty, meaningful accountability should follow under Thai law.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
