Five Horses Allegedly Left to Starve With Open Sores and Overgrown Hooves: Demand Justice

Target: Steve Wolfson, District Attorney, Clark County, Nevada

Goal: Provide justice for five horses reportedly deprived of food, water, and necessary care, causing severe starvation and prolonged suffering.

Multiple citizen complaints prompted Clark County Animal Protection officers and sheriff’s deputies to inspect a rural pasture. According to official reports, investigators executed an emergency seizure warrant after receiving concerns that several horses appeared dangerously emaciated.

According to reports, officers discovered five horses confined in a dry lot without visible forage, supplemental feed, or clean drinking water. Authorities further alleged that two of the horses displayed open saddle sores, severe muscle wasting, and unmanaged hoof overgrowth that impaired their ability to move comfortably. The property owner was issued citations failure to provide necessary sustenance and shelter under applicable Nevada animal welfare laws. Veterinary personnel removed the horses from the property and transported them to an equine rescue sanctuary, where they are receiving nutritional rehabilitation and medical treatment.

If the evidence establishes that horses were deprived of adequate food, water, or veterinary care, meaningful punishment is necessary. Horses depend entirely upon their caretakers to meet their basic needs. Vigorous enforcement of Nevada’s animal protection laws is essential to deter similar conduct and protect vulnerable animals from preventable suffering.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear District Attorney Wolfson,

Reports surrounding this investigation have generated widespread concern among animal welfare advocates. Authorities reportedly rescued five horses after executing an emergency seizure warrant at a rural property following citizen complaints.

According to official accounts, investigators alleged that the horses may have endured prolonged deprivation of food, water, and proper care, resulting in severe emaciation, painful wounds, and impaired mobility.

Please ensure that this investigation receives every available prosecutorial resource and that, if the evidence ultimately supports the allegations, all appropriate penalties are pursued. If investigators establish that these horses endured preventable suffering through severe neglect, meaningful accountability should follow under Nevada law.

Sincerely,
