Teenagers Apparently Used Stolen Dogs to Hunt Pets: Demand Justice

Target: Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, Provincial Commissioner, South African Police Service, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa

Goal: Ensure that any individuals found responsible for capturing family pets and using dogs to chase and attack cats and chickens face appropriate legal consequences and stronger protections for community animals.

A deeply disturbing investigation began after community complaints led authorities and animal welfare officials to examine allegations of organized animal abuse affecting residential neighborhoods. According to reports, a group of teenagers captured domestic pets reported missing from nearby homes and used the dogs to pursue and attack community cats and backyard chickens for entertainment.

Investigators partnered with animal welfare authorities after receiving repeated complaints from residents experiencing fear, distress and concern for missing animals. Authorities are reviewing witness accounts, digital evidence and social media materials while attempting to identify all individuals involved. Community safety teams also assisted efforts to locate animals believed to have been held.

Families deserve confidence that their pets can live safely without fear of cruelty or exploitation. Because the investigation remains active and no court has determined responsibility, due process must continue. However, if the allegations are substantiated, meaningful legal accountability and preventative measures should follow to protect animals and reassure affected communities.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Lieutenant General Mkhwanazi,

Authorities are investigating allegations that domestic pets may have been captured and that dogs were used to pursue and violently attack neighborhood animals.

Authorities continue gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses and examining digital materials to determine whether offenses occurred and who may bear responsibility. Animal welfare personnel and community groups have supported efforts to identify locations where animals may have been kept.

We respectfully urge your office to ensure a thorough investigation and, if supported by evidence and legal findings, pursue strong lawful action against any individuals ultimately found responsible. Please also support measures that strengthen protection for companion animals and help prevent similar alleged conduct in the future.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
