Decaying Dog Allegedly Left Rotting Beside Starving Pets: Where’s Justice?

Target: Herbert Cranford, District Attorney, Coweta Judicial Circuit, Georgia

Goal: Pursue maximum aggravated animal cruelty penalties against individuals accused of keeping starving dogs inside a toxic apartment containing a decomposing animal corpse.

A disturbing criminal investigation intensified after Coweta County deputies reportedly discovered a deceased and decaying dog trapped inside a travel crate in a Newnan, Georgia apartment. Authorities entered the residence following complaints regarding a foul odor and reportedly found the apartment heavily infested with flies and covered in piles of animal waste.

Investigators also reportedly discovered two surviving dogs suffering from severe malnutrition, with ribs and hip bones visibly protruding through their skin. Authorities allege that Kyle Overturf continued living inside the contaminated apartment for several days while the decomposing dog remained inside the crate. Investigators are additionally examining whether another individual who may have co-owned the pets should also face charges connected to the incident.

The surviving dogs have been transferred to emergency veterinary rehabilitation while prosecutors continue building the criminal case. Animal welfare advocates argue that prolonged confinement in these reported conditions may have caused severe physical suffering, starvation, dehydration and toxic environmental exposure. If substantiated, these allegations would represent shocking neglect inflicted upon defenseless companion animals.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear DA Cranford,

A deceased dog was left decomposing inside a crate while surviving dogs suffered severe malnutrition inside a contaminated apartment filled with waste and flies, according to reports.

Investigators arrested one individual on aggravated animal cruelty charges while continuing to review whether additional people may have been involved in the reported neglect. If proven, the conduct would represent severe cruelty and prolonged suffering.

We urge your office to pursue maximum penalties against any individuals found responsible in this neglect and abandonment case.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
