20 Animals Reportedly Kept in Filthy Home Without Water, Shelter, or Care Deserve Justice

Target: Robert Harvey, State’s Attorney, Calvert County, Maryland

Goal: Secure maximum penalties against those who allegedly kept 20 animals in filthy, waterless conditions with no adequate shelter or care.

Twenty animals of multiple species were allegedly found living in horrific conditions inside a Maryland home, with investigators reportedly discovering dogs locked in kennels without bedding or water, guinea pigs confined in enclosures with limited food and unsanitary surroundings, and poultry — including turkeys and ducklings — crammed into containers with contaminated water and no proper shelter. According to court documents, food and water sources throughout the property were either insufficient or entirely absent, and bedding areas were so heavily soiled as to raise serious concerns about the health of every animal on the premises. The discovery was made following an investigation at a Prince Frederick residence.

Both individuals charged in connection with the case allegedly failed to provide the most basic necessities of care — food, water, adequate shelter, and protection from environmental conditions — across an entire household of animals spanning multiple species. Authorities charged them with numerous counts of animal cruelty and neglect. A preliminary inquiry is set.

Neglect of this alleged scale and variety — reportedly affecting nearly two dozen animals simultaneously and spanning dogs, small animals, and birds — reflects a purported pattern of sustained indifference to animal suffering. Sign below and demand that the Calvert County State’s Attorney pursue the maximum penalties available under Maryland law to ensure that those charged face real consequences and that animals in this jurisdiction are protected.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear State’s Attorney Harvey,

We are writing to urge your office to pursue the strongest possible penalties against the two individuals charged in connection with the alleged mistreatment of 20 animals at a Prince Frederick home. According to court documents, investigators found dogs confined in kennels without water or bedding, guinea pigs kept in enclosures with limited food and unsanitary conditions, and turkeys and ducklings kept in containers with contaminated water — all at the same address, at the same time.

This was reportedly not an isolated lapse. The alleged neglect spanned nearly two dozen animals of multiple species, each allegedly denied the most fundamental protections that responsible ownership requires. The conditions described — soiled bedding areas, contaminated water, and absent food sources — suggest a prolonged and systematic failure of care that caused suffering across an entire household of living creatures.

We respectfully urge your office to seek the maximum penalties available under Maryland law against those charged in this case, and to make clear that any future cases allowing animals of any kind to suffer in these conditions will be treated with the full gravity they deserves. These animals allegedly endured sustained neglect. They deserve justice.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
