A terrified Turkish Angora named Manis, normally an indoor companion, vanished one May morning. Hours later, her guardian purportedly saw an elderly neighbor behaving suspiciously beside a roadside drain. When she looked inside, she reportedly found Manis blood-covered and barely breathing. Closed-circuit footage apparently shows the same man striking the cat, hurling her into an empty yard, and then shoving her into the drain to conceal the evidence.
Police have confirmed that the suspect, believed to be in his seventies, allegedly admitted attacking the cat because he was “annoyed.” Although emergency care spared Manis broken bones, veterinarians found fluid in her lungs and fear lasting trauma.
Under Malaysia’s Animal Welfare Act 2015, cruelty can carry a three-year prison term and heavy fines—yet abusers too often receive mere slaps on the wrist. Swift, serious punishment is crucial. A strong sentence will affirm that companion animals are not disposable objects and will deter copy-cat violence in communities across Malaysia. A recent case from Segamat illustrates the urgent need for decisive prosecution of animal cruelty. According to police statements and neighborhood CCTV, an elderly resident beat a neighbor’s Turkish Angora cat with a stick, tossed the wounded animal into a vacant compound, and then tried to hide her in a drain. He later allegedly admitted to the assault.
The victim, Manis, survived only after intensive veterinary intervention; she was apparently found soaked in blood and struggling to breathe. This horrifying act appears premeditated, violent, and utterly devoid of compassion. Such suspected conduct presents a clear danger not only to animals but to public safety, as research repeatedly links animal cruelty with broader violent behavior.
We respectfully urge the Prosecution Division to pursue the highest charges and penalties available under the Animal Welfare Act 2015 and the Penal Code. A custodial sentence, a substantial fine commensurate with the severity of the harm, mandatory counseling, and a lifelong prohibition on owning or caring for animals would send a vital deterrent message. Anything less would undermine the law’s intent and fail Manis, whose suffering demands meaningful accountability.
Malaysia’s commitment to humane values is judged by how strongly it defends the most vulnerable. Please help ensure that this reported act of cruelty is met with the full force of justice.

He definitely deserves the maximum penalty for killing and the suffering he inflicted upon the cat. May justice be served, even though his actions are still inexcusable!

He fealt ANNOYED (for whatever reason) and so he took out his feelings of annoyance or frustration on an innocent/defenceless little cat (very brave man). And he brutally attacked her with a weapon and obviously attempted to *kill* her. Then he tried to hide his crime by way of just shoving her severely injured body into a drain. And it was only down to *luck* that she was discovered and rescued and then given medical assistance. But it should make no difference as to whatever age this horrible individual happens to be, because he is a wicked/evil menace who has proved himself to be dangerous. Therefore he should be dealt with, with the same type of violence & brutality he gave to that poor little animal. That was a beautiful living being with feelings that he had inflicted so much pain and suffering onto. And she will remain debilitated and traumatised for the rest of her short little life. This cat/victim definitely does need proper *justice*, and her owners too. I sincerely hope this vicious, malignant & evil fiend is properly dealt with. Though it would be better and safer for everyone if he (this sick fiend) would be just put down – by any chosen method – because he didn’t show any compassion nor mercy to this poor innocent little animal.
