Puppies Reportedly Locked in Freezer at Breeding Facility Deserve Justice

Target: Jane Howlett, Minister for Primary Industries and Water, Tasmania

Goal: Strengthen animal welfare enforcement to prevent severe cruelty and protect animals from abuse.

Animal welfare advocates in Tasmania are urgently calling for tougher animal protection laws following distressing reports of severe cruelty. Former workers at a now-closed puppy breeding facility have alleged inhumane practices including over-breeding, physical abuse of dogs, deceit of buyers, and being asked to place live puppies in freezers. Additionally, suspicions of extreme mistreatment at a local abattoir have raised serious concerns about the effectiveness of current legislation.

Kristy Alger, an animal welfare advocate, has campaigned for legislative changes for eight years. She recalls witnessing a dairy cow at Gretna Meatworks in 2016 suffering prolonged pain due to inadequate slaughtering practices. The cow, no longer productive in milk, was reportedly left with a broken leg, subjected to multiple failed stunning attempts, and improperly slaughtered.

Despite existing animal welfare laws that should prevent such incidents, advocates argue that enforcement is lacking, and the legislation does not effectively deter inhumane practices. The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) Tasmania has expressed anticipation for the release of the draft Dog Regulations Discussion Paper, which aims to address these critical issues.

All these disturbing accusations highlight significant gaps in animal welfare protections and the urgent need for legislative reform. Take action now.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Minister Jane Howlett,

I am writing to express deep concern over recent reports of severe animal cruelty in Tasmania, including allegations from former workers at a closed puppy breeding facility and accounts of inhumane treatment at an abattoir. These distressing incidents suggest that current animal welfare laws are insufficient in preventing abuse and ensuring the humane treatment of animals.

Despite existing legislation intended to protect animals, the reported recurrence of such cruel practices indicates a lack of effective enforcement and deterrence. Animals continue to suffer unnecessarily due to gaps in the law and inadequate oversight. Strengthening animal welfare legislation and its enforcement is crucial to prevent further instances of abuse and to promote ethical treatment.

I urge you to take immediate action to enhance the legal protections for animals in Tasmania. This includes implementing stricter regulations, increasing penalties for violations, and ensuring robust enforcement mechanisms. By doing so, you will help safeguard the well-being of animals and reflect the community’s expectation for humane and ethical treatment.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

If it helps I have seen the results of many of these abuse petitions signed on similar sites here in the UK and I am happy to say that they actually do work.

  11. Death penalty for bastard abusers/killers, justice for puppies and other animals!
