Investigate Allegations of Cat Being Sedated for TV Drama

Target: Narumon Pinyosinwat, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives of Thailand

Goal: Ensure thorough investigation into the alleged sedation of a cat during the filming of a TV drama and enforce animal welfare laws.

A recent episode of the Thai period drama “The Empress of Ayodhaya” (also known as “Mae Yuhua”) has sparked public concern after a scene depicted a black cat named Samli appearing to drink a solution, experience seizures, and seemingly die on screen. Allegations have arisen that the cat was sedated for the scene, leading to calls for an investigation into potential animal cruelty.

Social media outcry, including the trending hashtag #แบนแม่หยัว (ban Mae Yuhua), has amplified the issue, with many questioning the treatment of the cat during filming. Channel One31, the network broadcasting the series, acknowledged that the cat was sedated under the supervision of “experts” from an animal modeling agency with over a decade of experience. However, skepticism remains regarding whether a licensed veterinarian was present, as improper sedation can pose serious risks to an animal’s health.

The Department of Livestock Development is investigating the incident, requesting clarification from the network and a comprehensive examination of the cat. The Veterinary Council of Thailand has reminded the public that animal sedation should only be performed by qualified veterinarians.

It is crucial to ensure that animals involved in media productions are treated ethically and in accordance with animal welfare laws. Determine if any violations occurred and to prevent future instances of potential cruelty.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Minister Narumon Pinyosinwat,

I am writing to express deep concern over reports that a cat was sedated for a scene in the Thai period drama “The Empress of Ayodhaya” (“Mae Yuhua”). In the scene, the cat appears to experience seizures and die, raising serious questions about the methods used during filming and the welfare of the animal involved.

Animal sedation should only be carried out by qualified veterinarians to ensure the safety and well-being of the animal. Improper sedation can lead to significant health risks, including distress, injury, or even death. The public outcry and the ongoing investigation by the Department of Livestock Development highlight the seriousness of this issue.

I urge you to ensure that a thorough and transparent investigation is conducted into this matter. If any violations of animal welfare laws are found, appropriate actions should be taken against those responsible. Upholding animal welfare standards is essential to protect innocent animals from harm and to maintain public trust in media practices.

By addressing this issue decisively, you can help promote the ethical treatment of animals and reinforce Thailand’s commitment to animal welfare.

Sincerely,

  1. Please be kind to animals

  2. I realize Thailand is a poor country, but there is no reason for this kind of behaviour
    Just bloody ignorance and poverty

  3. I hope the cat is ok! This is unacceptable and should have never happened.

  4. Programme makers, prove the cat is alive! Not only do we not believe you with regard to sedation, i dont believe you didnt poison an actual cat! Cats dont act, they arent trainable in that way. The only way to closely film a cat wrothing as if poisoned is to poison one! Prove you didnt do this! The rest of the world knows how badly you treat animals; on this one prove us wrong! Not only do i think you did poison a cat to film the scene, i know you probably re did the take a few times, so 2, 3 or 4 identical cats would have been killed! The giveaway is it being a black cat: tabby, ginger or black and white cat patterns can be hard to match over multiple animals, but not black cats! They strongly resemble each other frequently, and litter mates can pass for each other easily. Theres no telling how many might have been poisoned for that take, its horrific. THAI GOVT, PROVE ME WRONG!

  5. It looks to me like they must’ve just taken this beautiful cat and just used him and killed him to make a movie. So vile and heartless. But how dare they. Who do they think they are? Cats unfortunately don’t even live that long anyway – but yet they think nothing of just blowing its precious life away like it was just nothing! And just to make money. Most people would not want to watch this movie, because it is horrible and sickening. Poor innocent little cat. This is so disgusting and evil. Normal human beings do not abuse and murder any animals. They treat innocent animals with care and respect. Only people with no feelings and no soul would do something like this to a helpless animal.
