Cats and Rabbits Allegedly Denied Lifesaving Medical Care at Animal Rescue Deserve Justice

Target: Adv. Shamila Batohi, National Director of Public Prosecutions, South Africa

Goal: Prosecute the owner of the animal rescue allegedly responsible for neglecting and endangering over 60 cats and eight rabbits.

An animal rescue organization in Cape Town, Kitty Rescue Care & Rehome, was reportedly found to be keeping 63 cats and eight rabbits in dire conditions. Inspectors allegedly discovered the animals living in overcrowded, filthy spaces lacking proper light and ventilation, with an overpowering smell of ammonia. Healthy animals were reportedly housed with sick ones, increasing the risk of spreading infectious diseases.

Many of the cats were allegedly diagnosed with severe illnesses such as Feline Upper Respiratory Disease, Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV), and Feline Leukaemia Virus (FeLV). These diseases are incurable and highly contagious, leading to weakened immune systems and a slow, painful death for the affected animals. Rabbits were also reportedly confined to dirty cages without access to clean drinking water.

The owner of the rescue now faces criminal charges of animal cruelty. Legal action must be taken to hold those allegedly responsible accountable and to prevent future instances of such neglect. By prosecuting this case to the fullest extent of the law, authorities can send a clear message that animal neglect and abuse will not be tolerated. Ensure justice is served for these suffering animals.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Adv. Shamila Batohi,

I am deeply troubled by reports of severe animal neglect at Kitty Rescue Care & Rehome in Cape Town, where 63 cats and eight rabbits were allegedly found living in deplorable conditions. Inspectors reportedly discovered the animals in overcrowded, unsanitary environments lacking proper light and ventilation, with healthy animals housed alongside those suffering from serious illnesses like Feline Immunodeficiency Virus and Feline Leukaemia Virus.

Such apparent neglect not only caused immense suffering to these innocent animals but also posed significant health risks due to the spread of contagious diseases. The alleged failure to provide adequate care, clean living conditions, and necessary medical attention is a grave violation of animal welfare laws.

I urge you to prosecute the owner allegedly responsible for this severe neglect to the fullest extent of the law. Taking strong legal action will not only provide justice for these animals but also serve as a deterrent against future acts of animal cruelty. Please ensure that those allegedly responsible are held accountable and that measures are taken to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

Sincerely,
