Target: District Attorney Brian Mason, 17th Judicial District of Colorado
Goal: Ensure justice for a dog and her puppies who were killed due to alleged abuse and neglect.
A tragic case of alleged animal cruelty has come to light in Brighton, Colorado, where 26-year-old Jose Castruita Reyes is accused of leaving two dogs confined in wired-shut kennels for over two weeks without food or water. Officers from the Brighton Police Department responded to a call from property managers at an apartment complex reporting a foul odor coming from Reyes’ unit.
Upon investigation, the police reportedly found a horrific scene: a female dog had died inside her kennel, along with her partially delivered litter of puppies, while another dog, a male, was rescued and sent to Riverdale Animal Shelter for treatment. The dogs were allegedly deprived of food, water, and adequate care during this period of abandonment.
According to Brighton Police, Reyes was arrested upon his return to the apartment, and he has been charged with aggravated cruelty to animals (a Class 4 felony) and cruelty to animals (a misdemeanor). The level of suffering and neglect endured by these animals is unimaginable, and the alleged actions of Reyes require strong legal action.
This petition calls on the 17th Judicial District to prosecute this case to the fullest extent of the law. If proven guilty, Reyes should face the maximum legal penalties for his alleged actions. Ensure justice for the lives lost and send a clear message that animal cruelty will not be tolerated.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear District Attorney Brian Mason,
I am writing to express my concern regarding the recent case of alleged animal cruelty in Brighton, Colorado, involving Jose Castruita Reyes, who has been charged with aggravated cruelty to animals and other offenses. Reyes is accused of leaving two dogs confined in wired-shut kennels for over two weeks without food or water, resulting in the death of a female dog and her litter of puppies. Another dog, a male, was rescued and is currently receiving treatment.
The details of this case are deeply disturbing, and the suffering these animals allegedly endured is heart-wrenching. Depriving any animal of basic necessities like food, water, and shelter is not only cruel but criminal. If proven guilty, Jose Castruita Reyes must face the maximum penalties under the law for these alleged acts of cruelty.
As the District Attorney for the 17th Judicial District, you have the ability to ensure justice is served in this heartbreaking case. I urge you to seek the maximum penalties allowed under Colorado law to send a clear message that animal cruelty will not be tolerated in our community. The well-being of animals is a reflection of the compassion and integrity of our society, and it is crucial that those responsible for their suffering are held accountable.
Sincerely,

There is o hope for this man. To do what he did is uncalled for and totally lacking any responsibility. He needs to go to prison. Of course he may be insane. He needs to also be checked by doctors to be sure he doesn’t need to be in a mental institution. What he doesn’t need, is to be in society. We don’t want him. He could have taken the animals to a shelter but he decided to have them starve and die a most painful death. The animals suffered horribly. Please place a life long ban on this creep so he can NEVER own, work with, or be near animals for the rest of his ugly life. He doesn’t deserve animals. At the very least a life long ban must be in place.
I couldn’t agree more
Starve him to death, an eye for an eye.
