Seek Justice for Animals Allegedly Found Starving and With Severe Medical Issues

Target: Jeff Chostner, Pueblo County District Attorney

Goal: Secure stringent legal repercussions for alleged animal neglect in Pueblo County.

A grave situation unfolded in Pueblo County, where a disturbing number of animals suffered due to alleged neglect. Agents from the Bureau of Animal Protection, alongside the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office and the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, intervened in a dire scenario. They reportedly removed six horses, a chicken, a dog, a cat, two snakes, eight more dogs, and three additional cats from the residence of Elizabeth Barnes, allegedly underscoring a significant case of animal neglect.

Further investigations into this matter allegedly revealed more disturbing facts. The animals, particularly the horses, were reportedly in a deplorable state, underweight and struggling with various medical issues. This situation not only highlights the alleged negligence on the part of the caretaker but also the urgent need for intervention and rehabilitation for these innocent creatures. Their subsequent relocation to the Harmony Equine Center for rehabilitation brings to light the severity of their condition and the necessity for prompt, compassionate action.

The legal system must respond with appropriate severity to such alleged misconduct. Elizabeth Barnes faces charges that include one felony count of aggravated cruelty to animals and multiple misdemeanor counts of animal neglect and mistreatment. Demand that the Pueblo County District Attorney pursue the harshest possible penalties for these alleged actions, reinforcing the importance of animal welfare laws and ensuring justice for the victims of this appalling case.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear DA Jeff Chostner,

In light of an allegedly alarming case of alleged animal neglect in your jurisdiction, involving 22 animals removed from a property under distressing conditions, we urge you to take decisive action. These creatures, ranging from horses to household pets, reportedly endured severe neglect, leading to a state of health that necessitated immediate intervention. The involvement of multiple agencies to rescue and rehabilitate these animals speaks volumes about the gravity of their plight.

The charges laid against Elizabeth Barnes, including one felony count of aggravated cruelty and numerous counts of neglect and mistreatment, underscore the alleged severity of this case. These are not merely numbers or statistics but represent living beings that suffered due to reported negligence. As such, it is imperative that this case be treated with the utmost seriousness, ensuring that the legal response reflects the heinousness of the alleged acts.

We demand that you pursue the most stringent legal penalties available under the law against the accused, should she be found guilty. This case presents an opportunity to send a strong message about the importance of animal welfare and the consequences of neglect. Let justice prevail, not only as a punitive measure but also as a deterrent to prevent future instances of similar neglect.

Sincerely,

  1. We need stronger sentences, tougher laws and better enforcement. People understand money, make everyone found guilty of this type of horrific abuse pay for all rehab and relocation costs. That will send a message to everyone, a slap on the wrist means nothing to anyone, especially the ‘if I can get away with it I will’ crowd.
