Pet Rats Abandoned and Left to Die Deserve Justice

Target: Mr. K. Shanmugam, Minister for Home Affairs of Singapore

Goal: Ensure a thorough investigation into the abandonment and mistreatment of two rats.

At Block 52 Cassia Crescent in Geylang, Singapore, two pet rats were discovered in a soiled cage, abandoned at the Housing Board void deck. The distressing condition in which they were found, coupled with the apparent neglect they endured, raises serious concerns about animal welfare.

The discovery was made by a vigilant individual, Stomper Tengku, who promptly reported the situation to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). Photographs taken by Stomper Tengku reveal the two rodents, identified as fancy rats, huddled together in a corner of the cage, which was visibly unclean. Basic necessities such as cucumber, food pellets, and water were present but insufficient to meet the animals’ needs.

This act of cruelty and neglect towards these defenseless creatures is a clear violation of ethical principles and a reflection of the mistreatment and abandonment of animals. Such actions not only harm the well-being and dignity of living beings but also contravene Singapore’s commitment to upholding high standards of animal welfare. Take action now.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. K. Shanmugam,

We are writing to express our deep concern and outrage regarding the recent incident of animal abandonment and mistreatment at the Housing Board void deck in Geylang. The abandonment of two pet rats in a soiled cage reflects a callous disregard for the welfare and dignity of living creatures.

We implore you, as the Minister for Home Affairs, to take immediate action and ensure a thorough investigation into this case. We urge you to allocate the necessary resources and work in collaboration with relevant authorities to identify the culprit responsible for this act of cruelty and neglect.

The abandonment and mistreatment of animals are not only morally reprehensible but also undermine the principles of compassion and justice that Singapore upholds. We demand that decisive action be taken against the individual responsible, sending a clear message that such acts will not be tolerated within our society.

Furthermore, we call upon you to strengthen animal welfare laws and enforcement in Singapore, ensuring that comprehensive measures are in place to protect animals from abuse, abandonment, and neglect. By fostering a culture of empathy and respect towards all living beings, we can create a society that values and safeguards the welfare of animals.

Sincerely,
