Stop Using Electricity to ‘Train’ Dogs

Target: Dr. Karsten Brensing, Head of Animal Welfare – German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture

Goal: Ban the use of electric shock collars on dogs to prevent unnecessary pain and suffering.

The use of electric shock collars on dogs is a barbaric practice that has no place in modern society. These collars deliver electric shocks to dogs as a form of punishment, which can cause significant physical pain and psychological distress, leading to long-term harm. It is our responsibility as pet owners and animal lovers to ensure the well-being of our furry friends and to advocate for their protection from such unnecessary harm.

Positive reinforcement and reward-based training methods have been shown to be more effective than the use of electric shock collars in modifying behavior in dogs. These methods strengthen the bond between dogs and their owners and improve their overall well-being. Moreover, the use of positive reinforcement training methods promotes a more harmonious and respectful relationship between pet owners and their pets.

It is important to note that the use of electric shock collars on dogs is not only inhumane but also illegal in many countries. For example, in the United Kingdom, the use of electric shock collars on dogs has been illegal since 2018 due to animal welfare concerns. Together, we can protect our furry friends and ensure their well-being by advocating for humane training methods and raising awareness about the harm caused by these devices.

Sign the below petition to urge Dr. Brensing to take action and ban the use of electric shock collars on dogs.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Dr. Brensing,

I am writing to urge you to take action and ban the use of electric shock collars on dogs. These collars emit electric shocks as a form of punishment or negative reinforcement for behavior deemed undesirable by the owner. This practice can cause physical pain and distress to dogs, leading to potential long-term physical and psychological harm.

Positive reinforcement and training methods are more effective and humane alternatives that do not involve the use of painful stimuli. With this alternative in mind, the continued use of these devices on dogs could easily be banned to prevent unnecessary pain and suffering.

I urge you to take action and ban the use of electric shock collars on dogs to ensure their well-being and protection. Thank you for your attention to this important issue.

Sincerely,

  4. Siham Hajjar says:

How does an owner think this is right!?!? Maybe they should wear the collar.

  5. It’s beyond cruel that Germany does this to dogs!

  6. Positive reinforcement is the way to go.

  7. Michelle Stewart says:

There should be mandatory laws that make shock collars illegal all over the world. If anyone is caught using a shock collar on a dog, the person is automatically strongly electrocuted themselves as part of the punishment.

Then the person is charged with 2 animal cruelty felonies, person must spend 4 years in prison with no early parole, person must pay a $200,000 fine, all animals are seized immediately from the person and never given back (adopt them out in other provinces, states, countries), and the person/family are banned for life from owning or going near any animals ever again.

    • Michelle Stewart – I definately agree with your comment.

  8. Dogs can be trained with voice and reward. Electric shock is excessive and inhumane!

  9. STOP THIS EVIL FORM OF TRAINING,,, STUPID BASTARDS!!!!!
ALL THESE BARBARIC COLLARS DO IS CAUSE ANXIETY & PAIN!!!’
TREATS ARE THE BEST WAY TO TRAIN DOGS NOT ELECTIC SHOCK CRUELTY!!!

  10. Always thought positive reinforcement is the best way to train your dog and strengthen your bond with them rather than ‘torture’ them into submission. How about for those that insist on using them, make it mandatory that the owner also wear one and every time the dog gets zapped, so do you!!!

  11. Using shock collars to train dogs is barbaric, cruel, and inhumane. In addition to the suffering and pain caused by shock collars, it also causes trauma and fear in dogs. This method of training should have been illegal years ago. So the fact that it is still being used is an absolute disgrace.

  12. THIS BARBARIC FORM OF TRAINING SHOULD BE APPLIED TO THEMSELVES!

  13. ARE YOU ALL INSANE? THIS IS A DISGUSTING, EVIL, WICKED THING TO DO TO ANY ANIMAL.
THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO NEED FOR THIS AND NEVER EVER WILL THERE BE A REASON TO DO THIS.
WHAT ARE THESE HALF-WITS DOING TO ANIMALS…STOP THIS PERMANENTLY AND NOW.
THESE SO CALLED ‘HUMANS’ ARE JUST A VILE EXCUSE FOR LIFE.

  14. Laura Rolder says:

100% ban them. After learning the hard way by a trainer who insisted on it. It ruined my dog and made him very aggressive. I was younger then and trusted a highly recommended trainer never again. I made it my duty to educate and protect animals ever since. Positive reinforcement with treats. These devices should never have been made for animal training. Try using them and criminals and animal abusers is what they are good for not innocent helpless, voiceless animals. Ban the use of these on animals.

  15. Bernhard Yolanda says:

absolute animal cruelty towards the animals. this electroshock method should be carried out on these animal torturers (humans).

  16. STOP using CRUEL, barbaric electric shock collars on DOGS — we have alternative LOVING methods for training our loyal & sweet Animals — let’s get some sanity and compassion and get on board with these humane methods

  17. Steven Garcia says:

This needs to stop! Not cool!😡
