Goal: Save countless pigs, chickens, cows, and sheep from being suffocated and trampled to death in transport vehicles.
Before even making it to the slaughterhouse, farm animals are exposed to tremendous amounts of suffering. Millions of animals die before they ever even get to the slaughter plant, due to the insufferable conditions of transport vehicles. Transit is almost always extremely stressful and dangerous for animals involved. Throughout trips that can last upwards of a few days pigs, chickens, cows, sheep, and other animals bound for slaughter are given little to no access to water or food. Vehicles are often extremely overcrowded and hot and scared, suffocating animals sustain severe injuries from trampling one another.
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) recently published a series of recommendations pertaining to farm animal welfare improvements during transport. Among these improvements were more space for animals, lower temperatures in transport vehicles, and shorter journeys. EFSA has even gone as far as to develop direct temperature thresholds to be maintained in vehicles, as well as minimum space allowances per animal.
Sign this petition to demand the US enforce similar welfare improvements for farm animals in transport, as described by the EFSA.

Dear Secretary Vilsack,
For years, the EFSA has recognized the tremendous suffering that farmed animals endure during transport and has dedicated vital resources towards improving welfare standards on transport vehicles. Recently, they published a series of animal welfare improvements including providing more space for animals in transit, lowering temperatures in transit vehicles, and transporting animals for shorter durations. The EFSA has even taken the time to develop precise temperature thresholds for vehicles and minimum space allowances for each and every animal.
The U.S., on the other hand, has few protections in place to protect animals during a tremendously stressful time. Hundreds of chickens, cows, pigs, sheep, goats and others are crammed into poorly ventilated, overcrowded vehicles, deprived of access to food and water for days. Millions die before even making it to a slaughterhouse.
We are asking you, Mr. Vilsack, to follow the EFSA’s lead and implement stricter regulations to improve the welfare of animals during transport to slaughter.

This entire system must radically change. Animals suffer unbearably during the final hours of their lives en route to slaughterhouses. Please make stricter, more humane transport regulations for these innocent animals. The current system is unconscionable.

THERE M U S T MUST BE ACCESSIBLE ALTERNATIVES TO PORK. When you grow up eating and loving to eat pork (as I did) it is extremely difficult giving it up entirely. If you have empathy and a love for animals it isn’t as hard, but however still very challenging.
Thank God for Gardein as it is the perfect breakfast sausage. I have yet to find a vegan match for barbecue pork, Loma is good but ‘grounded like hamburger texture’ not shredded.
People need NEED alternatives! When offered good vegan options chipotle, mesquite, and smoked paprika bring it home taste wise. It all depends on YOU and YOUR product development expertise and YOU and YOUR marketing skills in convincing people who are pork addicts to fall in love with your vegan option alternatives !! It’s all ALL up to you ! Create it -make it and sell it baby !!! !

This is why I don’t eat pork and if I eat meat, look for humanely raised local farms where the animals have a natural, high quality life and are not slaughtered en masse. NO ANIMAL should be tortured for human consumption or entertainment. NONE.
This has to change. Animals should not have to go through this. Things aren’t going to change if the law doesn’t change. This is disgusting that they go through this. We have to have stricter laws and more penalties so this will change.

So disturbing to know how these animals have to suffer during transport to their final destination of death. Why can’t these animals be treated humanely? Must be a matter of money. Stuffing the animals together without food or water saves money, guess all involved do not care what happens to the animals . We must continue to protest and speak up for the voiceless and see to it that all living creatures are treated humanely.

Though unrealistic to think everyone will choose a vegan lifestyle, which would be the most effective way of ending the suffering of animals, EVERYONE, vegan or not, could and should demand the animals unfortunately destined to feed humans be treated with some compassion and respect. There is absolutely no justification to make their short lives as miserable and torturous as is now regular practice! We all can and should do better for all animals with being reminded that they are living beings with feelings of fear, pain, and distress!!
The animals suffer not only on their way to slaughter, but as soon as they are born!!! These are living beings that have emotions whether it is comfort or agony!!! They want life just as we do. Instead they are castrated without any pain killers or anesthesia, they are prodded, babies are ripped from their mothers and runts often left for dead, impregnated constantly; the milk taken for their babies for our consumption, gestation crates that never allow a pig to move; calves put in crates never seeing the light of day nor having the chance to even stand because of veal consumption; the torture does not stop. It is beyond evil how MAN as a whole cares nothing about the agony animals go through as long as it their needs are met. It’s sickening.
