Stop Suffocating Millions of Terrified Animals on the Way to Slaughter

Target: Thomas J. Vilsack, United States Secretary of Agriculture

Goal: Save countless pigs, chickens, cows, and sheep from being suffocated and trampled to death in transport vehicles.

Before even making it to the slaughterhouse, farm animals are exposed to tremendous amounts of suffering. Millions of animals die before they ever even get to the slaughter plant, due to the insufferable conditions of transport vehicles. Transit is almost always extremely stressful and dangerous for animals involved. Throughout trips that can last upwards of a few days pigs, chickens, cows, sheep, and other animals bound for slaughter are given little to no access to water or food. Vehicles are often extremely overcrowded and hot and scared, suffocating animals sustain severe injuries from trampling one another.

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) recently published a series of recommendations pertaining to farm animal welfare improvements during transport. Among these improvements were more space for animals, lower temperatures in transport vehicles, and shorter journeys. EFSA has even gone as far as to develop direct temperature thresholds to be maintained in vehicles, as well as minimum space allowances per animal.

Sign this petition to demand the US enforce similar welfare improvements for farm animals in transport, as described by the EFSA.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Secretary Vilsack,

For years, the EFSA has recognized the tremendous suffering that farmed animals endure during transport and has dedicated vital resources towards improving welfare standards on transport vehicles. Recently, they published a series of animal welfare improvements including providing more space for animals in transit, lowering temperatures in transit vehicles, and transporting animals for shorter durations. The EFSA has even taken the time to develop precise temperature thresholds for vehicles and minimum space allowances for each and every animal.

The U.S., on the other hand, has few protections in place to protect animals during a tremendously stressful time. Hundreds of chickens, cows, pigs, sheep, goats and others are crammed into poorly ventilated, overcrowded vehicles, deprived of access to food and water for days. Millions die before even making it to a slaughterhouse.

We are asking you, Mr. Vilsack, to follow the EFSA’s lead and implement stricter regulations to improve the welfare of animals during transport to slaughter.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

  1. This is beyond sad. Incredible this happens in United States let alone California. California is a state that pretends to love animals and advocates for them and it’s hypocritical. This would not be happening if they hired normal staff to manage these trucks and slaughterhouses. Hiring illegals coming from different cultures and do not consider animals as sentient beings is a cruel and selfish mistake. These animals suffer at the abuse of humans. These sentient animals deserve nothing but utter respect before being murdered in order to be someone’s dinner plate.

    • Cassy I definately agree with your comment.

Do you know I know that there are laws out there about abuse neglect on animals the way they’re miss treated the way they’re tortured if I’m not mistaken doesn’t that law pertain to everybody across the spectrum. Wouldn’t it also hold people who raise animals for food under the same guidelines? And if so why can’t these people that have more money than they know what to do with be allowed to get away with the way they miss treat these animals it is absurd to think just because you’re you’re in high Society you make mega bucks you’re a bigwig gives you the right to violate the law and get away with it I don’t think so. So the question is do we not hold these people who raise animals for food to the same guidelines as the rest of us and should they not be charged with killing millions of animals because of whatever crazy reason I can come up with where is the fairness the law is only for so many people and then for the rest of us that you know slap us in jail and hit us which defines and they get away with it something has to change.

  3. Stop eating meat! This would end the horrific transport of innocent animals.

    • Julia Edinger says:

This kind of treatment “would not end” ,,,,if EVERYONE stopped eating meat…… thinking about that!!! All those animal’s would suffering horrible horrible starvation because they aren’t needed anymore…… This kind of treatment “MUST STOP” PERIOD!!!

      • These animals are breed for consumption so if people greatly reduced their meat intake and actually did some research on the source there would be far less animals.

    • no it would not because they would just send them over seas and have you seen how they kill animals over there. It’s worse check it out

      • The breeding of these animals would be greatly reduced if people ate less or no meat. Stop making excuse to eat something you really don’t need.

  4. PROSECUTE THESE MONSTERS WHO DO THIS TO ANIMALS!! THEY OBVIOUSLY DONT GIVE A CRAP ABOUT ANIMALS BECAUSE THEY ARE ABUSIVE MONSTERS WHO HAVE NO REGARD FOR LIFE!!!! LAWS SHOULD PROTECT THESE ANIMALS AND PROSECUTE THESE MONSTERS!!! FREE THESE ANIMALS!!!

  5. I have nothing to say on a subject that never seems to never end. For the love of God just get it stopped.

  6. Pigs, chickens and cows are treated horribly. They should not have to endure suffering just because they will be food. They need to be protected from abuse and suffering. Maybe some of these greedy owners should have to ride where these animals do so they can feel the pain.

  7. It’s going to be next to impossible to stop greedy mother-fuckers from transporting these animals so inhumanely. Very little room for them in transport vehicles, no food and no water. The bottom line for these greedy bastards is money. The more animals that they can cram into transport vehicles, the more money they make. They couldn’t give a rat’s ass less about the suffering these poor animals endure. And the assholes making the laws are more interested in their jobs, their power and their cocktail parties than they are the suffering of these animals. This is exactly why I care more about animals than I do about human beings.

    • You think just like I do. I wish more people would feel the same way. I would love to take all of these assholes and cram them into a truck to the point they can’t breathe and drive them around in the heat for a few days w/o any food or water and just stand outside the truck where they can see me and light a match to the gas tank and slowly turn my back and walk away.

      • Johnny & Connie, you read my mind, I feel exactly the same way as you do. I stopped eating meat 30 odd years ago when I learnt of the cruelty in abotoirs and on farms.
Evil fucking humans who live upon this earth, covid, earthquakes, floods, fires, there will be KARMA for all in the end.
Every fucking country on earth, so much cruelty to animals. Im in Australia, its the same here. Ive got no sympathy for humans whatsoever!

        • Hi kinred spirit, I am in OZ too and absolutely beside myself with grief with the holocaust that is been waged upon the earths animals and have been praying for someone else to see and actually really care too! Sometimes i dont now who is worse, the global crazies executing their evil agenza or those who are indifferent and do nothing! If people dont start embracing love and compassion we are going to loose ALL life on earth! The global attacks against animals are coming on fast and strong and we are running out of time!!. And when we need the animal welfare groups.. well they have either been bought out or so dumbed down by brainwashing they cant see the attacks unfolding under their very noses! Hello children of GOD there is a war been waged against our precious animals, LOOK and SEE and rise up now!!

    • No different than an abortion clinic .People are sick.

  8. Marilyn collins says:

The pigs are gorgeous. The inhumane idiots involved in this whole disgusting business are the lowest of the low of the human race. Your greed is despicable you have have so much blood and torture on your hands. Give up meat people.

  9. GO VEGAN, it’s the ONLY ethical eating option because it’s 100% CRUELTY-FREE, and also tasty and healthy!
Everything else is wishful thinking, hypocrisy and lies. As long as you eat meat, dairy and eggs, animals will be subjected to shocking cruelty!
Just stop eating animals and this ANIMAL-HELL will end very soon…
GO VEGAN! Delicious Vegan fake-meats and other vegan foods are available in all supermarkets! Why eat DEATH!?

  10. Joseph Kenosky says:

    End this shit immediately.

  11. Shirley Lemieux says:

Thomas Vilsack, You are the United States Secretary of Agriculture and can change the transport deaths and cruelty of farm animals being crammed into trailers. Total disrespect for these living beings. And down right vicious and cruel. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has taken steps to provide the right treatment and transport for Farm Animals. The United States should follow in their foot steps. I support this Petition because it is the right thing to do.

  12. Linda Hilty-Tuttle says:

We have no right to complain about how China and other countries mistreat their animals when the U.S.A. does the very same!

  13. Patricia Lamonica says:

SO BEAUTIFULLY PUT CASSY! IS THIS WHATS CALLED FACTORY FARMING IM SURE COWS ARE DONE THE SAME WAY THIS KIND OF ANIMAL ABUSE IS SICKENING BEING A VEGETARIAN LOOKS PRETTY GOOD!

  14. If you care, STOP EATING MEAT!

  15. Patricia Leigh Wicker says:

    STOP THIS HORRIFIC CRUELTY!!!!!!

  16. The suffering and inhumane treatment of sentient animals that go from pen to table is deplorable. This needs to stop.

  17. Julia Edinger says:

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH Johnny K.
“ It’s going to be next to impossible to stop greedy mother-fuckers from transporting these animals so inhumanely. Very little room for them in transport vehicles, no food and no water. 18. So as a species we’re so goddamned unconnected to the animals who have an equal right to live their lives, we also can’t be bothered to not try to not impose further suffering AS WE CONDEMN THEM TO THE HORRORS OF SLAUGHTER!!!! “MEN” ????? SO FEW ACTUAL MEN AMONG US!!!!

  19. COULD THERE POSSIBLY BE A MORE SELF-INVOLVED, SOUL-LESS SPECIES ON EARTH THAN “HUMANS”? MAKES ME ASHAMED AND DISGUSTED. AND WE WANT TO GET OUT INTO THE UNIVERSE? ANYONE WATCHING US WILL MAKE SURE THAT CONTAMINATION NEVER HAPPENS.
