Target: Judge Nguyen, Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals California
Goal: Thank Judge Nguyen for standing up for the ethical treatment of animals.
A ban on cruel foie gras has been upheld by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in California. In 2015 the ban placed on the production, sale, and consumption of foie gras in California was lifted and production resumed. Foie gras is the fattened liver of a duck or goose and considered a delicacy served in many high-end restaurants throughout the state. The birds are force-fed through large tubes several times a day until they are slaughtered for sale. The treatment that these helpless birds endure is inhumane at best and often results in the birds dying from disease or choking. Activists have detailed the treatment of these birds and this inhumane practice in articles and petitions, including here on ForceChange.
According to the San Fransisco Chronicle, the California Ban has been reinstated, but will not be in effect until the entire appeals process has been completed and a mandate issued. This means that the practice of force-feeding ducks and geese will continue for the time being and the product will continue to be available for sale and consumption. PETA and The Humane Society are among the protesters of the foie gras process. Cathy Kennedy, Director of the Coalition for Humane and Ethical Farming Standards (CHEFS) states, “We absolutely are going to appeal.” Ms. Kennedy and the CHEFS are working to appeal the ban and support the 2015 decision that allows the inhumane practice of force-feeding the birds and subsequent sale and consumption of their fattened livers. Sign this petition thanking Judge Nguyen and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals for doing what is right and supporting the ethical treatment of animals.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Judge Nguyen,
Thank you for your support for the ethical and humane treatment of animals. The practice of force-feeding ducks and geese for the harvest of their fattened liver is despicable and disturbing. We are thankful to you, and Judge Pregerson and Judge Owens for taking a stand and reinstating the ban on foie gras, and for your continued support on the matter.
These birds face cruel and disgusting treatment at the hands of these farmers. The practices employed in the farming of these ducks and geese leave the animals in a state of trauma, injury, and stress and leads to a life of diseases and pain. Many of these animals die during the feeding process by choking on the food being pumped into their bodies and their own vomit. The inhumane treatment of these animals is a disgrace and should continue to be addressed legally and eliminated through regulation. We thank you and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals for your stance on the matter and ask that you continue to support the humane and ethical treatment of all animals.
Sincerely,

I guess the rich people missed their pate foie gras. I wish we could shove food down the throats of those who eat this puke.
Finally someone understands how cruel, abusive and painful this is!
Judge Nguyen – I thank you and the Animal Kingdom, whom by the way are citizens of this Earth too, thank you. Upholding the ban on foie gras was absolutely the right thing to do. We need more Judges like yourself serving in this country who understand that this planet is home to many different forms of Life, not just human Life, and that all Life should be respected.
