Calf Allegedly Found Rotting Beneath Tin: Demand Justice

Target: Hariram Shankar, Superintendent of Police, Udupi, Karnataka, India

Goal: Secure lawful protection for animals allegedly left wounded among filth and a decomposing calf’s remains, and pursue substantiated neglect charges.

Beneath a sheet of tin, investigators allegedly found a decomposing calf beside scattered animal bones. PETA India describes this discovery during the seventh intervention at a Saligrama property. Surviving animals were allegedly crowded into filthy conditions without adequate food, clean water, or necessary veterinary treatment.

The allegations concern property managed by B. Sudhindra Aithal. PETA India cites earlier closure orders and two police complaints while seeking seizure of remaining animals. Reports describe untreated wounds, infections, and serious disease. Any ownership dispute must be resolved through lawful procedures, with the animals’ immediate welfare assessed urgently.

The alleged conditions require documented veterinary findings and a clear account of what previous orders required. Demand coordinated protective action, investigation of every substantiated violation, and appropriate prosecution of proven neglect.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Superintendent Shankar,

Please work with veterinary and municipal authorities to assess all animals remaining at the property and secure any necessary protective orders. The allegation that a calf’s decomposing body lay beneath tin beside animal bones is particularly disturbing. Establish the cause of death wherever possible and document the condition of each living animal.

We ask that officers preserve photographs, veterinary findings, prior inspection records, closure notices, and evidence relevant to the existing complaints. Determine whether earlier requirements were served and complied with, and examine the alleged deprivation of food, water, and treatment. Arrange suitable care through lawful procedures wherever the evidence supports removal. A claim of ownership should be considered fairly alongside the duties owed to animals and the documented risks to their welfare.

Pursue appropriate charges where the investigation establishes neglect or other offenses, and support proportionate penalties through the prosecuting authority. Seek any available court orders necessary for safe custody and lasting protection, rather than assuming police can impose permanent confiscation themselves. Please coordinate follow-up visits and a lasting care plan. The surviving animals need practical safeguards, and any proven disregard of their basic needs must receive a meaningful legal response.

Sincerely,
