Target: Prosecuting Attorney, Spokane County, Washington
Goal: Punish whoever was responsible for 23 severely malnourished animals found among carcasses and pursue serious criminal penalties if cruelty or neglect is established.
Twenty-three living animals were reportedly rescued from a rural property where investigators encountered a severe hoarding and neglect environment. Dogs and cats were allegedly found profoundly malnourished, suffering from advanced skin infections and surrounded by accumulated waste. Animal carcasses were also reportedly discovered on the property.
The survivors were placed in emergency veterinary care while authorities began determining who owned or controlled the property and who bore responsibility for their care. Investigators must also establish how the deceased animals died and whether their deaths were connected to the conditions discovered at the property.
Twenty-three animals survived conditions serious enough to require emergency intervention. Others were found dead. Investigators should establish how long these conditions persisted and document the causes of death wherever possible. Anyone proven to have criminally neglected or abused these animals should face penalties proportionate to the suffering established by the evidence.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Prosecuting Attorney,
Twenty-three dogs and cats were reportedly rescued from a rural property where they were severely malnourished, suffering from serious skin infections and surrounded by accumulated waste. Investigators also discovered animal carcasses.
Please determine who controlled the property and who was responsible for providing these animals with food, medical treatment and basic care. Veterinary evidence and forensic examination of the deceased animals could help establish exactly what occurred.
If the evidence demonstrates criminal cruelty or neglect, pursue serious charges against whoever is proven responsible. Establish what happened to the deceased animals and ensure meaningful accountability wherever criminal wrongdoing is proven.
Sincerely,
