Inside the compound, investigators reportedly found 22 donkeys tethered in poorly ventilated enclosures without adequate food, water, or dry bedding.
Veterinary inspectors allegedly documented deep rope lacerations around the animals’ bodies, painful open saddle sores, and widespread emaciation consistent with prolonged neglect. Authorities further reported that they believe the premises may have been operating as an illegal bush-meat slaughterhouse supplying unregulated commercial markets. Before officers arrived, the property’s leaseholder apparently fled. The donkeys were lawfully seized and transferred to the Kenya Society for the Protection and Care of Animals for long-term rehabilitation. The investigation remains ongoing, and no court has determined criminal liability.
