Justice for ‘Pandemic Pets’ Left Rotting Indoors

Target: Rudi Heersink, Chief Public Prosecutor, Netherlands Public Prosecution Service

Goal: Pursue maximum penalties against any individuals starving companion animals inside contaminated homes without food or veterinary care.

Animal welfare investigators have reported a disturbing rise in severe neglect cases involving pets left starving inside heavily contaminated homes across the Netherlands. Veterinarians and inspectors documented animals suffering from prolonged malnutrition, untreated illnesses, and extreme deprivation after months without consistent care. Authorities stated that recent neglect notifications have tripled compared to previous years.

Investigators believe many of these cases involve so-called “pandemic pets” acquired during lockdown periods and later neglected as economic pressures increased. Welfare officers repotedly discovered animals living among waste, filth, and hazardous conditions where food, water, and veterinary treatment had been withheld for extended periods.

Authorities are currently stabilizing rescued animals at undisclosed facilities while forensic case files are being prepared for prosecutors. Call for action against these widespread passive cruelty cases.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Chief Prosecutor Heersink,

Animal welfare inspectors have reported multiple investigations involving pets left starving and untreated inside contaminated homes throughout the Netherlands. Authorities documented severe malnutrition, illness, and prolonged neglect among rescued animals.

Investigators believe several cases may involve owners who failed to provide food, medical treatment, or humane living conditions for extended periods. If proven, the conduct would represent severe cruelty causing prolonged suffering.

We urge your office to pursue the strongest penalties available under Dutch animal welfare laws and seek ownership bans against any individuals found responsible.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
