Dog Tied in Scorching Sun Demands Justice

A man was found guilty of tying his dog to a small balcony in scorching heat. The case began after a complaint from an animal welfare representative, following which the dog was rescued with police assistance. The matter continued for 15 months before the court imposed a fine of Rs 1,050.

The act placed a dependent animal in direct sun with no meaningful ability to escape the heat. Dogs can suffer dehydration, heat stress and serious medical harm when trapped in extreme temperatures. The low penalty has raised concern about whether such outcomes can adequately deter cruelty.

The law must communicate that animals are not objects to be left exposed until help arrives. A stronger enforcement approach is necessary in similar cases so that future animals do not suffer in silence while confined in heat.
