Beagle Facility Under Scrutiny After Allegations of Surgical Cruelty: Demand Full Investigation

Target: Ismael Ozanne, District Attorney of Dane County, Wisconsin

Goal: Ensure investigation and prosecution if allegations of cruelty at a dog breeding and testing facility are substantiated.

A large-scale protest unfolded at a dog breeding facility in Wisconsin that has faced scrutiny in connection with allegations involving the treatment of animals used in pharmaceutical testing. The facility has drawn attention after a judicial finding reportedly identified probable cause related to allegations of felony mutilation. These findings were reportedly connected to procedures carried out on dogs without anesthesia, raising serious concerns about compliance with animal welfare regulations.

During the protest, approximately 1,000 activists gathered and attempted what they described as an “open rescue” of dogs from the facility. Law enforcement responded to attempts to breach security barriers, resulting in clashes that included the use of crowd control measures. At least 25 individuals were arrested for trespassing and related charges.

Despite the scale of the protest and the seriousness of the allegations, no new animal cruelty charges have been finalized following the incident. However, the facility is reportedly set to surrender its breeding license later this year. The allegations, combined with judicial findings of probable cause, raise important questions about the treatment of animals in such facilities and the adequacy of oversight mechanisms.

Animal welfare laws are designed to ensure that animals used in research are treated humanely and that any procedures comply with strict ethical and legal standards. If animals are subjected to unnecessary suffering or improper procedures, it is essential that these claims be thoroughly investigated and addressed through the legal system. PETITION LETTER:

Dear DA Ozanne,

A facility has reportedly been linked to allegations of surgical procedures performed on dogs without anesthesia, with a judge finding probable cause in connection with potential felony violations.

We urge your office to conduct a full investigation and pursue prosecution if evidence supports these allegations. Ensuring that animal welfare laws are upheld in research environments is critical to preventing suffering and maintaining accountability.

Sincerely,
