Justice for Birds Allegedly Mutilated and Prepared for Deadly Cockfights

Target: John T. Savrnoch, Santa Barbara County District Attorney, California

Goal: Pursue full prosecution after dozens of birds were allegedly mutilated, kept in unsanitary conditions, and prepared for violent cockfights.

Authorities reportedly uncovered disturbing conditions during an investigation into suspected illegal cockfighting activities. Animal control officers and sheriff’s investigators executed search warrants at properties where birds were allegedly being prepared for violent fights. Investigators reportedly discovered items commonly associated with cockfighting, including sharp blades known as “slashers” or navajas that are attached to birds during fights. Several chickens were also reportedly found living in overcrowded and unsanitary conditions.

During the operation, officers reportedly seized 58 birds from a related property. Many of the birds allegedly showed physical signs associated with cockfighting preparation. Officials reportedly observed that several birds had been “dubbed,” meaning their combs and wattles had been cut off  to reduce bleeding during fights. Investigators also reportedly observed trimmed natural spurs that may have been modified so blades could be attached during fights intended to injure or kill opposing birds.

When dozens of animals are allegedly mutilated and prepared for violent fights, urgent legal action becomes necessary. Sign below to demand full prosecution to deter any similar alleged cruelty and to protect vulnerable animals from exploitation and suffering.

PETITION LETTER:

DA John T. Savrnoch,

We write to express grave concern regarding reports that 58 birds were alleged used in cockfighting activities. Authorities reportedly discovered equipment used in cockfighting, including blades that may be attached to birds during fights.

Investigators reportedly observed birds that showed physical signs commonly associated with cockfighting preparation, including combs and wattles that had been cut off and spurs that had been trimmed in a manner that may allow blades to be attached. These allegations, if substantiated, suggest that animals may have been mutilated and prepared for violent fights.

We respectfully urge your office to pursue full prosecution to the fullest extent permitted by law should the evidence substantiate these allegations. Strong enforcement is essential to ensure that animals are not exploited or subjected to violent fighting for entertainment.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
