Over 20 Dogs Reportedly Kept in Filth Without Food or Water Deserve Justice

Target: Eric Gonzalez, Brooklyn District Attorney, Kings County, New York

Goal: Pursue full prosecution and meaningful penalties after dozens of dogs were allegedly confined in extreme filth and deprived of basic care.

A deeply disturbing case of suspected animal neglect has come to light after law enforcement officers reportedly discovered more than 20 Pomeranian-type dogs living in severe squalor inside a residential apartment. According to authorities, the dogs — including numerous puppies — were found surrounded by their own feces and urine, in an unsanitary, odor-filled environment without immediate access to food or water.

Animal welfare officials stated that the dogs were removed from the apartment and transported for urgent veterinary care. After initial treatment, the animals underwent forensic examinations and medical and behavioral assessments, as investigators began examining the circumstances that allegedly led to their prolonged suffering. Officials noted that many of the dogs may require extended rehabilitation due to the conditions in which they were reportedly kept.

Cases of large-scale neglect demand firm legal accountability. When animals are confined in extreme filth and deprived of basic necessities, enforcement of animal cruelty laws is essential. This petition calls for decisive prosecution to ensure justice for the animals and to deter future acts of alleged neglect.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear District Attorney Gonzalez,

We are writing to express serious concern regarding reports that more than 20 dogs, including numerous puppies, were kept in deplorable conditions inside a residential apartment. According to statements from authorities, the animals were confined in filth, surrounded by waste, and lacked immediate access to food or water — conditions that pose severe risks to both physical and psychological health. The dogs reportedly required urgent veterinary care and forensic evaluation, suggesting that neglect was not brief or accidental but may have occurred over an extended period.

We respectfully urge your office to pursue this case to the fullest extent of the law and seek penalties that reflect the seriousness of the alleged neglect. Strong prosecution is necessary to protect vulnerable animals, uphold public trust, and send a clear message that extreme neglect and indifference will not be tolerated.

Sincerely,
