Seek Justice for German Shepherd Reportedly Forced to Eat Trash to Survive

Target: Steve Wolfson, Clark County District Attorney, Nevada

Goal: Ensure that the person responsible for Raider’s reported neglect faces strict legal consequences for allegedly abandoning the dog in such a state.

A heartbreaking case of alleged animal cruelty has recently emerged in Las Vegas, Nevada, involving an emaciated German shepherd named Raider. One week ago, animal rescuers reportedly discovered Raider on the brink of death, severely malnourished and eating trash to survive. When Raider was brought to the Vegas Pet Rescue Project, he weighed only 18 pounds—about a quarter of his expected weight. Emergency surgery revealed rubber bands, plastic, and hair inside his stomach, indicating desperate attempts to find food.

According to Samantha Curtis of the Vegas Pet Rescue Project, Raider’s alleged physical condition points to months of starvation. Shockingly, this was an owner surrender, suggesting prolonged neglect before his rescue. Raider’s case highlights an allegedly severe breach of animal welfare, as the dog was allegedly found in a dire state requiring immediate and intensive veterinary care, including the use of a feeding tube due to the risk of refeeding syndrome.

The incident has sparked an open investigation by Metro’s Animal Cruelty unit. While there has not been a reported rise in animal abuse cases in the area, Curtis fears more cases like Raider’s are out there, unseen and unreported. It is crucial that the Clark County District Attorney pursues this investigation thoroughly and ensures that those allegedly responsible for Raider’s condition face appropriate legal consequences. Prevent further cases of neglect and to promote responsible pet ownership.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear DA Steve Wolfson,

I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the recent case of alleged animal cruelty involving a German shepherd named Raider, who was allegedly discovered severely emaciated and on the brink of death in Las Vegas. According to reports from the Vegas Pet Rescue Project, Raider was found weighing only 18 pounds, approximately a quarter of his expected weight, and had been eating trash to survive. Emergency surgery revealed that Raider had allegedly ingested rubber bands, plastic, and hair, pointing to months of starvation and neglect.

This case allegedly represents a grave violation of animal welfare laws, and it is particularly troubling to learn that Raider was an owner surrender. The severe malnourishment and physical condition of the dog allegedly suggest a prolonged period of neglect and a failure to provide even the most basic care. Such actions are unacceptable and must be met with strict legal consequences to ensure justice for Raider and to deter similar acts of cruelty in the future.

I urge you to take immediate and decisive action to investigate this incident and to prosecute those responsible under the fullest extent of the law. It is essential that the legal system reflects society’s commitment to protecting animals from harm and that strong measures are in place to prevent such abuse. By pursuing justice for Raider, we can send a clear message that animal cruelty will not be tolerated in our community.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
