Target: Hector Balderas, Attorney General of New Mexico
Goal: Ensure the groomer is held accountable for her alleged actions and implement stricter regulations to prevent animal abuse in grooming facilities.
A deeply troubling case of alleged animal cruelty has surfaced in Rio Rancho, where groomer Sheila Baca was arrested after being caught on surveillance video allegedly mistreating a dog on her grooming table. The video reportedly shows Baca struggling with the dog, leading to increasingly aggressive behavior, including allegedly punching the dog. Despite Baca’s attempts to justify her actions, claiming she was trying to make the dog “act right,” the footage reportedly shows the distress and harm inflicted on the animal.
This case highlights a significant concern regarding the treatment of animals in grooming facilities. Animals placed in these settings are vulnerable and deserve to be treated with care and respect. The actions reportedly depicted in the video are unacceptable and must be met with appropriate legal consequences. Additionally, this case underscores the need for stricter oversight and regulations within the pet grooming industry to ensure the safety and well-being of all animals.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Attorney General Balderas,
I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the recent case of alleged animal abuse involving groomer Sheila Baca in Rio Rancho. Surveillance footage reportedly shows Baca mistreating a dog during a grooming session, including allegedly punching the dog and handling it in a manner that caused significant distress.
While Baca has been charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty, this case highlights a broader issue within the pet grooming industry that requires urgent attention. Animals placed in these environments are vulnerable and depend on the care and professionalism of their handlers. The alleged actions of Baca not only betray the trust placed in her by pet owners but also raise serious concerns about the treatment of animals in grooming facilities.
I urge you to ensure that Baca is held fully accountable for her alleged actions and to consider implementing stricter regulations and oversight within the pet grooming industry. By doing so, we can help prevent future incidents of abuse and ensure that all animals receive the care and respect they deserve.
Sincerely,
[Your Name Here]

Dogs at groomers need to be treated nicely. Rough treatment can result in bites but usually dogs are tied to the tables and have muzzles on. I would hate to be a dog in that position. I know sometimes groomers get a mean dog but not often and if a dog annoys you, refuse to groom them. However, it isn’t correct to punch or hit a dog under any circumstances. You get more with honey than vinegar. Possibly a healthy treat so as to stop bad behaviors? Most times it’s the owners. They can drive everyone nuts! This is a field groomer have chosen and I feel they need to make the most of it for re[eat business and nice reactions with clients. Kindness works!
If that had been my dog, thee would have been precious little of this b**** to prosecute. Lock it up and NEVER let it work with animals ever again.
