Target: Mr. Chris Tang, Secretary for Security, Hong Kong
Goal: Ensure justice for the reportedly abused stray dogs and implement stronger protections for stray animals.
A troubling case of animal abuse has surfaced on Lantau Island, where two stray dogs were allegedly mistreated by workers of the Po Lin Monastery. The dogs were reportedly removed from the monastery’s quarters and set free at a remote location. The monastery, which claims to provide care and shelter for stray animals, has stated that they are actively searching for the missing dogs. However, this incident raises serious concerns about the treatment of stray animals at this renowned Buddhist institution, which is home to the Big Buddha, one of Hong Kong’s main tourist attractions.
Authorities have arrested two men, aged 65 and 46, in connection with the alleged abuse. Both suspects have been released on bail pending further investigation. This case underscores the urgent need for stronger protections and enforcement measures to prevent such incidents from occurring.
Stray animals in Hong Kong deserve care and respect, not neglect and abuse. It is crucial that the responsible parties are held accountable for their actions. Ensure the safety and well-being of all stray animals in the region.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Mr. Chris Tang,
I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the recent case of suspected animal abuse involving two stray dogs allegedly mistreated by workers of the Po Lin Monastery on Lantau Island. The dogs were reportedly removed from the monastery’s quarters and abandoned in a remote location, raising serious concerns about the treatment of stray animals at this renowned institution.
While the monastery has stated that they are actively searching for the missing dogs, it is essential that the responsible individuals are held accountable for their suspected actions. Stray animals in Hong Kong deserve care and protection, not neglect and abuse.
I urge you to ensure a thorough investigation into this incident and to implement stronger protections for stray animals throughout Hong Kong. The well-being of these animals must be prioritized, and justice must be served to prevent such incidents from happening again in the future.
Sincerely,

A monastery has cared for stay dogs but then this happened due workers? There needs to be a check list as to what can be and can’t be done. This is so strange as Buddhist are the kindest people in the world. Now this? I am amazed, upset, and frightened to know things such as this can occur. Please set standards for care with animals. Animal have as much right to live as we do but we steal everything from animals, habitat, food, etc. Laws wold help but need to be enforced.Hopefully there can be peace.
