Target: Ajaykumar Landge, Senior Police Inspector of Panvel Police Department
Goal: Seek justice in mass poisoning that killed 30 dogs.
Thirty stray dogs became victims of a horrific mass poisoning in Panvel, India. The defenseless animals, beloved amongst the local tribal populations, ingested food laced with poison. Animal advocates described the deaths as “agonizing.” These advocates are now calling upon the police department to find answers.
Many of the bodies were recovered after locals demanded an investigation. One activist lamented: “we are very disturbed to see how healthy dogs have been killed en masse…although there are animal protection laws in place.” Tragically, this case seems part of a troubling trend in India. Recently, eight dogs were poisoned while nearly two dozen puppies were allegedly thrown out into the wild at a housing complex in another region. Further, July 9 will mark the anniversary of another mass poisoning of 60 dogs in Nerul: a day recognized as Poison Biscuit Day. In some of these incidents, politicians have even been accused of ordering the animals’ executions.
Sign this petition to demand authorities follow the rule of law and do a complete investigation, including post-mortem exams, to bring the individuals responsible for this callous act of animal cruelty to justice.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Inspector Landge,
The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act has stood as a hallmark of Indian legislation for 60 years. This important law recognizes the right of animals to enjoy a life free from abuse, exploitation, and murder by human hands. The poisoning of 30 dogs in Panvel is a case study in why this law was needed.
By all accounts, these animals endured an agonizingly painful death after their food sources were deliberately laced with poison. This cruel act represents the second mass poisoning of canines taking place in India within a month. As Poison Biscuit Day still looms, please send a forceful message that these sick actions will not be tolerated or enabled.
Utilize every available resource to ensure justice for these fallen victims and for all vulnerable animals.
Sincerely,
