Success: Sale of Inhumane Foie Gras Banned

Target: Carlina Rivera, Councilwoman for New York City, New York

Goal: Support the recent ban on the sale of Foie Gras in New York City restaurants.

One less city will buy into the torture of animals as the latest ban on Foie Gras takes shape. Animal rights activists have protested the French delicacy for years because it’s obtained through the inhumane force-feeding of ducks. Thank those who took part in this monumental animal rights decision.

“This is one of the most violent practices and it’s done for a purely luxury product,” stated Carlina Rivera, a New York City councilwoman. She successfully sponsored the legislation which led to this city-wide ban, giving animal rights activists and those who added their names to this ForceChange petition a reason to celebrate. Foie Gras is obtained by sticking a tube down duck’s throats and force-feeding them a fatty corn-based mixture. The painful process takes 20 days and swells their livers to ten times their normal size. This practice is still legal in some parts of the world, but India, Israel, Britain, and now New York City have banned its sale.

This ban, which will officially go into effect in 2022, could never have happened without the tireless work of the New York City Council. Sign below to thank them for their dedication to animal rights.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Councilwoman Rivera,

Your recent proposal to ban Foie Gras in New York City has officially been passed and animal right’s activists around the world are cheering. More ducks will finally be safe from torturous and inhumane force-feeding practices that cause them to live with tubes down their throats and painfully engorged livers, all for the sake of a luxurious French delicacy.

Some New York City chefs may speak out against your actions, but you must know that the work you’ve done has made a real difference in the world of animal welfare. No animal, ducks included, should have to suffer such atrocities in the name of human desire.

Thank you to doing this important work and taking a stand for innocent animals around the world. Your dedication is highly appreciated.

Sincerely,

  2. This is so frustrating. The ban does not go into effect till
2022 so for two more years the animals suffer.

  3. SO The poor things have to Suffer for two more years!!! WHY Can it not be stopped NOW?????

  4. Why 2 more years ???. I hope all those involved get ill and die, it is a wicked thing to do to the creatures

  5. Foie Gras has NOT been banned in NYC, only the force feeding of ducks/geese! Enough time for the industry to figure out alternate ways to get those diseased, fatty livers!

  6. And the suffering, the slaughter will go on!!!

  7. Thank you so much for having enough insight to ban Foie Gras in your restaurants. This ill gotten duck liver that is created by force feeding ducks is actually a diseased liver. Who wants to eat that anyway?!!!!
