Success: Commercial Whale Hunting Rejected

Target: Mr. Lorenzo Rojas-Bracho, Chair of the International Whaling Commission Conservation Committee

Goal: Applaud that Japan’s proposal to resume commercial whaling was rejected.

At the 2018 International Whaling Commission (IWC) meeting, Japan and other countries that support whaling brought forth a proposal to overturn a more-than-30-years ban on commercial whaling. After a heated debate, the proposal was put to a vote, and the majority of the members in the meeting voted to reject the proposal. As a result, commercial whaling will continue to be banned.

Japan’s “Way Forward” proposal would have allowed for commercial whaling and the merciless slaughtering of whales in large numbers, such as described in this Force Change petition. Thanks to the diligent efforts of the majority of the IWC members, numerous whales will be saved from dying at the hands of whalers.

Sign this petition to applaud the IWC for its decision to reject Japan’s pro-whaling proposal. These majestic creatures of the ocean must be protected by all means necessary to ensure their continued existence.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Rojas-Bracho,

I am writing to applaud the IWC for its decision to reject Japan’s proposal to resume commercial whaling. Japan and other pro-whaling countries have been working to overturn the more-than-30-years ban on commercial whaling. This whaling proposal had brought much consternation and fear to many who wish to see an end to the brutal practice of killing whales mercilessly for profit.

Thank you for the pro-whale conservation decision of the IWC. This decision will greatly contribute to whale conservation efforts as numerous whales will be saved from dying at the hands of commercial whalers.

Sincerely,

  1. Now we need to go after that so called “research” loophole. ALL whaling needs to be banned for any and all reasons. Ban whaling for good!

  2. Derinda Nilsson says:

    Agreed!! Vince

  3. These people won’t stop just because there is a law against it. They still hunt whales using the “research “ clause. This is rediculous! As Vince said, close this crazy research loophole. These whales aren’t being researched, they are killed for their flesh.

  4. Nothing will stop Japan from hunting whales. They feel entitled to do whatever they want regardless of laws. The “research” clause is a joke. They kill the whales for food.
